Before Adam could do anything.
Someone was starting to come down the steps from inside toward the front porch of the house.
The wolf and the rest came out from their hidden places and drew their arrows towards the open door, but only to stop and stand down to see Pine.
"No! Don't!" She cried.
As she starts to rush toward Adam.
But was grabbed by one of the hunters.
Searching her for any scratches and marks.
Bringing her away from where Adam was sitting and the arrow still pointed at the back of his head.
From one of the wolves.
"Take her back to the village as soon as you can, I'll take care of this." She said.
Pine struggled and yelled at the other wolves.
"Dont! Please! He didn't do anything wrong!" She cried.
"Adam!" Pine yelled, but when she got deeper into the woods, she was no longer heard.
Now only leaving him and the solution having an arrow to his head. And two others standing a few feet with arrows arched and ready.
Adam took a deep breath, closing his eyes.
And started to mutter a nursery rhyme.
"Solomon Grundy, Born on a Monday, Christened on Tuesday, Married on Wednesday, Took ill on Thursday,
Grew worse on Friday, Died on Saturday,
Buried on Sunday, That was the end, Of Solomon Grundy." He muttered.
The wolves looked at Adam confused.
Lazzari took a moment before one of her scouts came up to her whispering in her ear.
"What do we do know?" The wolf asked.
She took a moment to realize, that somehow her anger and hatred for humans had taken control over her.
Taking a breath and sighing, she drew her arrow back, away from the human's head.
But Adam continued to stay still.
"Who are you?" Lazzari asked
"My name is Adam." He said, in a calm tone.
"How did you end up with one of our kind?"
"I found her when she was being taken from these three men that you killed." He said.
One of the wolves scoffed in amusement, at what Adam said.
"Heh, right. Like we're supposed to believe that."
"Your kind are nothing but monsters." The other wolf said.
Lazzari silenced them with a predatory glance.
Then turned back to Adam.
"You can stand, but if you try to do anything, I'll cut your throat with my bare claws." She warned.
Adam slowly rose up and carefully turned to face her, to see she was slightly taller than he was about 10 inches taller including the two others that were at a distance behind Lazzari.
"How could a human child like you be so stupid in thinking that he could take down three men and save a pup?" Lazzari asked, with a tone that told Adam that she wasn't convinced by what he told them.
"..." Adam said.
"Answer me!" She yelled, grasping the side of his chin with her claws, slightly piercing through his skin.
To her confusion, she assumed he would flinch or have signs of physical pain.
But he didn't.
He just gave her a straight-eye look.
"How did you do it?" She asked, growling.
"I saw an opportunity and I took it," Adam said, calmly.
She looked at him with a piercing stare.
Lazzari stared at him for a moment.
Looking into his dark brown eyes, assuming he was lying, but deep down she saw something she never expected from any human.
She let go of his face but gave him a look of suspicion.
"...Why?" Lazzari asked.
Adam took a moment to think through the wolf's question.
Then answered.
"Some things in life are worth saving...no matter the risk, they're worth it," Adam said.
The two wolves behind Lazzari looked at one another, looking surprised and confused.
Even Lazzari herself.
Looking at Adam one more time she turned away.
"Let's go." She said, signaling her two wolf scouts to pull out the arrows from the three dead men's bodies.
Once they've collected the arrows the two scouts headed out into the woods, except for Lazzari.
Turning back to Adam, before leaving into the woods.
Giving him a small but straight smile.
"...Thank you." She said, in a slight gratitude tone.
Adam nodded to her, and she nodded back.
Then she was gone.
Leaving Adam with the three dead bodies in his front yard.
Walking back inside the house.
He pulled out a house phone to call 911, hopefully, give them a pretty good convincing story about what happened.
Cleaning up the injuries on his face with a kitchen cloth, he grabbed the phone from the living room coffee table.
While the phone was ringing he noticed the raincoat that he wore to the woods was still hanging up on the coat hanging, by the front door.
But noticed something poking out from one of the outside pockets.
Walking up to it and using his free hand, to pull it out.
To reveal an arrow.
The same one he found when was in the woods.
"I must've put it in my coat pocket." He muttered.
"At least I'll remember what happened today." He said.
"...I hope." He thought.
That was when someone from the other line on the phone spoke.
"911 what's your emergency?" A female voice, asked, through the phone line.
