Love In The Dark

Fault

Olivia sat with her head resting on her desk. She hadn't slept since she got Amanda's message. She knew the moment she heard it that something was wrong. When she tried to call back it went straight to voicemail. She immediately called Finn who met her at the precinct. They were up all night tracking her SUV and her cellphone. They traced her phone to the last pinged location outside of the café but had no luck finding it. They tracked the SUV to a junkyard on the outskirts of the city and the trail died there with any leads they had. They all knew who did this but no one wanted to be the one to say it. She stood up, her messy pony tail had strands that fell on both sides of her face and dark circles rested under her eyes. The look of exhaustion was nothing compared to how defeated she felt inside. If she had just listened to Amanda and agreed to the protective custody none of this would have happened. This was all her fault. She knew that Amanda had been scared and she'd promised her everything would be fine. This wasn't fine and she couldn't even help her because she had no idea where they were. She'd waited all night for Lewis to taunt her or make some ridiculous ransom demands but it'd been radio silent all night. Why wasn't he trying to get her attention? 

"LIv? Liv you okay?" Fin stood beside Liv trying to get her attention. "Liv talk to me, what's up? What are you thinking?" He looks at her and takes a seat in the chair in front of her desk.

"What if I never see her again? What if this was all he wanted was for me to know she's out there going through God knows what because of me?" A single tear falls, and she wipes it away. "Fin this is all my fault. She wanted me to go into protective custody and I didn't because I thought I could find him on my own." Fin sees a vulnerable side of her that he'd never seen before and he knew that she was really taking the blame for all of this.

"Liv you can't do that. This isn't your fault. You didn't make him do this, this is on Lewis. Who's to say that if you had gone into custody he wouldn't have gone after someone else you care about? We're gonna get him Liv. Amanda's strong, she's gonna be okay." She looks at FIn her face looks tired and worried and he can see the exhaustion in her eyes. He stands up from the chair and looks at her. "I'm gonna call in some food. What do you want?" 

"Thanks FIn, I'm really not hungry."

"You gotta eat Liv. You're no good to her if you're not taking care of yourself." He tries to reason with her. They'd been up all hours of the night and he hadn't seen her take so much as a single sip of coffee or eat anything. 

"Fin, I know you're trying to help but I can take care of myself."

"Okay." He heads out of her office and into the squad room. She lets out an exasperated sigh. She wasn't trying to take her anger out on him she just couldn't deal with it. She'd eat when she figured something out. She stood up from her desk closing her laptop and grabbing her phone.  She knew this couldn't have been endgame. She walked out of the squad room trying to remain as casual as possible. She quickly reached the back stairs exiting the precinct out the back door. She walked out the back alley and flagged down a taxi. She wasn't sure where she was going but she knew she had no chance of Lewis reaching out or resurfacing with the entire NYPD breathing down her neck. Fin was getting food and everyone else was busy working with TARU trying to track Amanda's GPS that had somehow been disabled. Liv instructed the taxi to take her as far as possible away from the city. She paid the taxi driver and got out at a small diner taking a seat in a small corner booth facing the entrance. All she could do now was wait and hope that Lewis took the bait. She knew without a doubt that Lewis would never give up the opportunity to confront her face to face alone and she was willing to take whatever risks she had to for him to lead her to Amanda.
