She was exhausted but she knew she had to keep going. She parked the car at a trashy looking rest area and pulled out the flip phone. She calls the only number programmed into the contacts and presses the call button waiting for it to connect. She looked around at the other cars. Most were empty and the few that weren't were people who were all consumed in their own little worlds. What if she left before he could get here? What if she asked someone to call for help? She could ask a million what if questions but she knew that any answer was a bad one. She couldn't live with someone's life being on her hands.
"I've reached the end of your directions. Where are you Lewis? I told you I'm not here to play games. You're not here and I know Amanda's not here so where the hell are you?"
"Calm down princess, I'm about five minutes out. I had to leave your lover behind, I figured you guys had already plastered my face all over the internet and it would be safest to travel solo. Don't worry though, you won't have to miss me for much longer. Don't leave the car until I get there. If you pull anything at all, I'll kill both of you."
"Don't call me princess and don't threaten me. I don't plan on pulling anything because I know there's no plausible way you'll get away with all of this." She flips the phone shut throwing it at the passenger side floor. What was she doing? She was gambling with her life, but she was gambling with Amanda's life now too. She had no plan, she'd gone into this blindly. Her brain had been in a haze and now she didn't know what to do. She started to realize that if she couldn't save Amanda they'd both die and all of it would be her fault. She was so deep in thought that she jumped when he knocked on the window and she hadn't even seen him approach or hear his car pull in.
"Get out of the car." He opens her door grabbing her forearm pulling her as she unbuckles her seatbelt. Once she steps out of the car she pushes him hand off of her arm and brushes herself off.
"Don't make a scene detective." He wraps his arm around her shoulders and pulls her close to him. Her blood boils and her stomach sinks to what feels like the center of the universe. She walks following his lead to a car parked on the far end of the rest area. He opens the passenger side door. "Get in."
After driving for a bit longer they pull up to abandoned building. Abandoned didn't even feel like it came close. If Amanda was here was she even alive?
"What is this?" Lewis looks at her and smiles.
"Do you want a history lesson, or do you want to go see your pretty blonde cop?" He steps out of the car to her side and uncuffs her from the door. "Let's go." Hesitantly and eagerly she gets out of the car.
They walk around the side of the building and down the same hall he'd brought Amanda down. She had no idea what she was walking into or how bad things would get from this point forward.
"What is this Lewis? Where the hell is Amanda? If you hurt her, I will kill you." Before she even has time to blink she feels the cold steel of the revolver make contact with her head before everything goes black and she collapses onto the floor.
"There goes the security deposit." Lewis laughs dragging her limp body down the hall to the basement door. He unlocks the door and dumps her at the bottom of the stairs.
