Huck skated ahead as Snag and Hokey ran right behind him. When they got to the door, they wondered what they should do.
"Should we knock?" Huck asked.
Hokey shook his head. "Now what do you think, Huck? I doubt there will be anyone here to greet us right off the bat! We should go and make our presence known!"
"Now hold on, Hokey!" Snag argued. "What if there is someone waiting for us on the other side, anticipating our arrival, even?"
"Aw, shucks fellers!" Huck said, raising his arms to shush them. "I'll knock, an if'n no one answers, we'll jus' open the door."
Snag and Hokey looked at each other.
"That works, I suppose," Snag finally said.
"Well go on then, Huck!" Hokey urged. "Knock already!"
Huck began to knock on the door, but nobody answered, so he waited for a moment, then finally gripped the handle and pushed the door open.
"Wow!!!" all three of the friends said as they laid eyes on what was on the other side.
They were standing in front of a magical land with cotton candy clouds, and rivers made of strawberry milk and chocolate milk. The flowers were lollipops, and gumdrops grew on the trees. There were even big buildings made from chocolate bars and peanut brittle! Everything looked so delicious and edible, that Huck's mouth was watering.
"Heavens to amazement!" Snag cried. "There's more candy here than the biggest candy store I've ever seen!"
"What's the biggest candy store you've ever seen?" Huck asked.
"Yeah, go on, spill!" Hokey replied.
"Come to think of it, I don't know!" Snag answered.
They all shared a laugh and walked through the magical town. Huck then took his finger and grabbed a small dab of frosting from a small cupcake. Then he took a taste. "Mmmmm-mmmm! This place is sweeter than the big rock candy mountain! I just love it already!" Then he began to sing.
"One evening as the sun went down and the jungle fire was burning
Down the track came a hobo hiking and he said, "Boys, I'm not turning"
"I'm headed for a land that's far away beside the crystal fountain
So come with me, we'll go and see
The Big Rock Candy Mountain!
Ohhh, the buzzin' of the bees and the peppermint trees
By the soda water fountain.
Oh, the lemonade springs where the bluebird sings
In the Big Rock Candy Mountain!"
"Heavens to sweetness," Snag sighed. "I remember that song!"
Huck smiled and continued to sing.
"In the Big Rock Candy Mountain, you never change your socks
And little streams of lemonade come a-tricklin' down the rocks
The hobos there are friendly and their fires all burn bright
There's a lake of stew and soda, too
You can paddle all around 'em in a big canoe
In the Big Rock Candy Mountain!
