Rosé's hand was in hers when they left the house, and God, Lisa wasn't ready for this to be over because nothing has ever felt as right as being with Rosé did.

It didn't take long though, their feet only just hitting the sand, for Lisa to realize that something was wrong with Rosé. She was fidgeting, her hand had run through her hair three times already, a sure sign that she was nervous about something.

"Hey?" Lisa nudged her side, their joined hands still between them. "You okay?"

"I..." Rosé turned and smiled at her. "I'm good."

"You sure?"

"I'm sure."

Lisa eyed her for a moment, but if Rosé didn't want to talk, she wouldn't push, so she dropped it, Rosé would talk if and when she was ready.

Rosé ran her hand through her hair for the fourth time not five minutes later, and it was when Lisa heard the long breath Rosé let out, she knew Rosé was preparing herself to talk.

"I shouldn't have agreed to be your fake date for the wedding."

That stopped Lisa in her tracks their joined hands caused Rosé to stop too. Whatever she'd expected Rosé to say, it wasn't that.

"That came out wrong."

"Sorry," Lisa swallowed. "Have I made you uncomfortable? I thought we had rice for--"

"No, wait, please, can I explain? Before you jump to the wrong conclusion in your head because I'm not saying this right."

There was not a lot that Rosé's sentence could mean.

Lisa's chest was tightening with the thought that she'd done something wrong, that she'd made Rosé uncomfortable, that she'd no longer want to be friends with her.

But she stayed quiet because Rosé asked her to let her explain and they were still holding hands. She just wanted to know what she'd done so she could fix it because she couldn't lose Rosé, she just couldn't.

"I shouldn't have agreed to be your fake date to the wedding," Rosé started, or at least Lisa hoped that was just the start because her mind was jumping to one conclusion and it wasn't a good one.

"I should be your real date instead. I almost said it, but I panicked because you're so important to me and I don't want to lose you. But this weekend has been painful, knowing it's not real, and it's going to be even worse going back home and not being able to be close to you again, not being able to hold your hand or kiss you as I've wanted to all weekend."

Lisa thought her mind may have stopped working around the time that Rosé said "real date" because nothing after that made sense.

"What?"

"I've tried to stand back, let you explore your sexuality yourself, figure out who you are, and I've loved every moment I've gotten to spend with you as a friend, but I also know now I'll regret it for the rest of my life if I don't at least tell you how I feel."

Lisa couldn't breathe, because it sounded like, "How do you feel?"

"I love you," Rosé said like it was the simplest thing in the world, and maybe it was, maybe Lisa had just been too blind to see that she was not the only one who had feelings for her best friend.

"You make me so happy and I'm done pretending I don't want to be with you. I don't know if you feel the same, but I want you to know that you're it for me, Lisa Manoabn, I've never felt like this about anyone before and I love you."

Lisa clutched her free hand on the collar of Rosé's shirt and tugged her forward. She stopped with her lips hovering above Rosé's, so close, but she needed to check something first.

"Rice?"

"No," Rosé replied, the word brushing against her lips, and then Lisa's breath caught up when her lips pressed against her own.

Rosé's mouth capturing hers in a kiss was even better than the ones Lisa had dreamt about.

Rosé dropped her hand, but Lisa wasn't going to complain as a hand cupped her jaw. Lisa melted into the touch, into the feel of lips and hands and a firm body against her own.

She didn't even know a kiss could feel this good.

But then Rosé's tongue slipped into her mouth and then there was absolutely nothing else on her mind except for Rosé and how she never wanted this moment to end.

Except it has to, though Rosé didn't retreat far, their foreheads pressed together as Lisa tried to catch her breath.

The immediacy wasn't helping.

"Does that mean you like me too?" Rosé asked into the space between them, her voice just above a whisper.

Lisa pulled away and saw the smile on Rosé's face. She already knew the answer. Except Rosé was wrong.

"No," Lisa shook her head. "It means I love you too."

Rosé's smile got bigger, and Lisa dipped forward to press a quick kiss to her lips because now she could. She lingered over her lips before she pulled away again.

"Can I ask you something?" Lisa asked as Rosé dropped her hand from Lisa's cheek, intertwining their fingers back together, and pulled her back in the direction of her house.

"Of course," Rosé answered.

"Will you have dinner with me tonight?"

Rosé halted and turned to grin at Lisa. "Are you asking me out on a date?"

In every scenario that Lisa imagined asking Rosé out, none of them was like this. For starters, she'd thought she'd be more nervous, but she doesn't feel nervous at all, just happy.

"Maybe."

"If I say yes," Rosé was still smiling, her cheeks were making it very hard for Lisa not to just kiss her again. "Will you take me out for Italian and will we have ice cream after?"

Lisa bit her lip as she remembered the fake date she'd made up, one she'd thought about way too much.

"I don't know," Lisa shrugged, trying to hide her smile though she knows she was failing, she is too happy right now. "You'll have to say yes to find out."

"If you get to plan the first date, then I get to plan the second because I'm not going to lie, I've thought about asking you out so many times and I want to put some of those plans into action."

"Is that so?" Lisa asked, eyebrow quirked, even as her heart was pounding faster in her chest.

She really couldn't believe that all this time, Rosé had loved her too.

"I guess that's a fair deal, and a pretty good one too because it means we'll have at least two dates."

"If I have anything to say about it, we're going to have a lot more than that," Rosé said, her tone saying she was not joking anymore.

"Now come on, Manoban," Rosé said, tugging on their joined hands again, leading them back to the house.

"The sooner we get back and clean up, the sooner we can go home and you can take me on that date."

Lisa smiled, she couldn't wait.
