Chapter 5

The air was nice and cool. Crow had his guitar in a beautiful black case. Chameleon was walking next to him, his long hair in its usual ponytail. Crow looked up at the clouds, not really knowing what to say. He studied the droopy, water packed leaves on the trees. 'I wonder what they would look like if they had the sky light,' he pondered. Chameleon broke his thoughts.

"Look, I'm sorry for taking you away from Raven," He apologized.

"It's ok. I needed a break from him anyways. I don't think we were getting along that well," Crow reassured.

"Still, he's been through a lot. At least, from what I can see."

"I thought you guys hated each other. Do you two have some deeper connection?"

"I guess you could say that? We were good friends once. I missed it. I loved him like a little brother, you know?"

"I don't, really. I can guess what it's like, though. Doesn't it hurt?"

"Seeing him hate me now? Absolutely. I made a really bad mistake and I can't take it back. I don't blame him for hating me."

"Then why even try?"

Chameleon was taken aback by this. He thought for a moment, contemplating his next words.

"It's something worth fighting for. Relationships with those that you care about are worth anything, even if the past ones didn't end well," He said carefully.

"That's risky," Crow commented.

"Anything's worth risking. It is true that when you take risks, you could lose someone you love. I took the wrong risk, but it doesn't mean that you can't try."

Crow hummed in reply, considering what he said. Chameleon pointed out a bench and they both went to sit on it. Crow pulled out his guitar case, opening it up.

"So, if you don't mind me asking, what exactly did you go through?" Crow asked.

"With Raven?"

"Yeah. How could he hate you so much?"

"I...pried into information that I shouldn't have. It's my biggest regret."

"Did you read his diary or something?"

"Hah! I wish it was that simple."

Crow gave a confused look, before looking down at his guitar. He plucked the strings, figuring out the tuning. He twisted the machine heads to get the pitch he wanted. He absently played a few chords, thinking of a basic tune to play.

"Hey, Crow?" Chameleon asked.

"Aye?"

"Can you promise me something?"

"Maybe, what is it?"

"Can you promise me that you won't get too close to Raven?"

"Why?"

"Someone could end up getting hurt."

Crow chuckled nervously, partially taking the response as a joke. When he saw Chameleon's blank expression, he stopped laughing. He looked down at his guitar and started playing a tune. Chameleon closed his eyes and sat there, smiling. Crow kept getting distracted by what Chameleon said earlier.

He tried to calm himself, focusing only on the music. He got carried away in the tune, gladly losing himself. He started humming along, partially tempted to sing along. He ended up not singing, scared it wouldn't sound good. He played a few more chords and looked at Chameleon.
