"Summertime is always the best of what might be." - Charles Bowden

Prologue

Rob's POV

"Get out! Get out now!"

The rattled down car came to an abrupt stop, making other cars honk crazily behind us. Ugh, here she goes again. Mom got out of the car in one swift movement, she slammed the drivers seat door behind her and opened mine. She tugged at my short sleeved blue shirt, making the shirt stretch out a bit.

"Let go lady, good God you're going to ruin my favorite shirt!"

She let go of my shirt with a frustrated sign and popped the trunk. I climbed out of the car and closed the door behind me. I don't even want to do this anyway, It's not like it's my fault I don't like her new husband.

Mom put two large suitcases on the gravel ground and threw a wallet at me.

"There's two hundred dollars, and your airplane ticket. If you want me more you're going to have to work for it down in Texas. The plane takes off in ten minutes too so hurry up."

My fingers ran against the dark leather bound wallet and thumbed through the stack of twenties.

This is total bullshit. Just because I flipped out over her new husband, she sends me to live in Texas with my uncle. Who by the way, I have never heard of in my life. Most of my relatives live in Canada, not in the states. I shoved the wallet in my pocket and went over to my dark blue suitcases. Mother slammed the already worn down trunk and hopped back in the car.

Vehicles gave up on honking at us and just drove around us. A couple of people were watching us, trying to listen in on our conversation. People can't mind their business can they?

"Until you learn some God damn, respect you're staying with Uncle Felix this summer. I can't have you walking around the house with a stick shoved up your butt and pressing your new stepdad's buttons!"

Mom started the engine back up and adjusted her chair.

"Well, If you're expecting me to apologize to him then you're sadly mistaken."

"Bye, Robert. Even though you're eighteen you're still a child."

Mom drove off with no more words said, leaving a thin smoke trail coming out the car. My finger grabbed the hands of the two suitcases and started walking into the half full airport. This is so stupid. She can't do this, I'm an adult! I stopped walking and pulled out a piece of rainbow shaped candy. I put a piece in my mouth and put the opened package back in my suitcase.

Mat, Mitch, Jerome, and I were all going to rent out a suite for the summer. The guys and I were going to figure out how to build a computer from scratch too. Do you have any idea how cool that sounds?! Just think of the bragging rights. But nope! Mom just had to go and ruin it by getting a jackass of a husband!

An announcement was made over an old fashion intercom.

"The airplane flying to Dallas, Texas will be leaving in approximately five minutes, I repeat the airplane going to Dallas, Texas from Canada will be leaving in approximately five minutes. Please have your ticket and passport ready."

Great, just tricking great. I picked up my pace, along with a couple other people. I don't even have time to get coffee. Hopefully they'll have coffee on this plane. I looked around trying to find the plane to Texas. I've never been to an airport before, because I haven't really had a reason to. A young woman must of saw distress in my eyes and waved over at me.

"Sir if you're looking for the plane to Dallas, it's about to take off."

I rushed over to her and handed her the brightly decorated plane ticket. Thanks for dropping me at the airport on time mom, I appreciate it. She scanned my ticket and handed the stub to me. I shoved the small stub in my pocket and put my phone on airplane mode.

"Thank you, can I see your passport and then you can make your way on to the plane."

"Passport?"

"Yeah, you need one to travel. It looks like a little brown book. Haven't you ever been on a plane before?"

I murmured a no and searched my front section of my suitcase for it. Um, I don't remember anything mom told me about my passport. She might have told me last night, but hell I was playing Counter Strike. Could you blame me? Another announcement came on over the intercom but was a bit louder then the last one.

"Final call for going to Dallas, Texas from Canada. The plane will be leaving in less than a minutes. We apologize for any inconveniences along the way"

My fingers skimmed across a thin cheaply felt leather book. This has to be it. The clutch couldn't have been closer. I took the passport out and handed it to the flight attendant. She smiled at me and quickly stamped the book.

"You're seat number 034 in row 4, have a nice flight!"

"Thank you."

I grabbed my suitcases and quickly ran over to the only airplane in sight, another flight attendant was about to close the plane door.

"Wait!"

I dashed towards the door and made it time before the plane took off. The flight attendant closed and locked the airplane door and showed me to my seat. I started huffing and puffing threw my nose, when we found my seat. Man, I need to get in shape. I found a compartment to put my things, after I was done my bottom meet the tan seat.

"We are now taking of for Texas, enjoy your flight ladies and gentlemen. The flight should be nine hours long."

It would have been horrible if I would missed my flight, I probably would have had to call my mom and trust me after that conversation we had, that would be the death of me. I reached into my pocket and took my grey earbuds out. I plugged them into my phone and started listening to some music.

The airplane started to move as I started feeling relaxation coming from my shoulders. I let my body sink into the seat and become one with it. My eyes started to close as I started drifting off into my own little world.

Well, this summer won't be one i'll forget. I can already tell.

A/N: Hey everyone, now I was going to start writing this book in August but then I thought about it. Why not write it in the summer, since the book takes place in summer? Also one more thing before I go, this book may be updated every week or either every two to four days because I'm kinda busy over the summer with catching up on sleep, trying to get a summer job, and a couple of other things.

( P.S: Let me know what you think of the story and cover so far :) )
