The night you passed away
a single star was left.
There was no moon,
no sun,
no clouds
it was just you.
I sat outside ripping myself to pieces
I felt a breeze between my fingers
and there you were.
you were so bright it was hard to miss
that was how I knew it was you.
The star was bright white
and refused to let go
I cried and I cried
but there you stayed.
I knew I couldn't leave your side
so I took your last picture,
wrote you a poem,
wept in your dismissal,
and threw myself away.
I know I wasn't healing the way you wanted.
I wanted to show you all my poems
and let you read my books
but now you'll just become the character.
You have shown so bright
that you're impaled into my mind.
