Chapter 18

(Longer Chapter!!)

I kissed Matt again right before we left and he looked at me.

"Are you okay?" He asked lightly.

"Yeah. I just.. I love you. I mean fuck, you punched your own brother in the face for me."

Matt looked down at the ground then looked back at me.

"Aw fuck it."

All of a sudden Matt was on one knee in front of me.

"Matt.."

Matt looked up at me and Chris and Nick watched from the other room. Chris had a look of hope on his face. He wanted me to say no. Nick on the other hand, he wanted me to say yes.

"Shelby, I know we've only been together for like 10 months, but I love you with everything in me. I know we're only 19 but I know that I want to be with you for like forever. So in that case.." Matt pulled the ring box from his pocket. "Shelby. Will you marry me?"

I looked down at Matt and smiled.

"Yes! Of course I will!"

Chris was filled with anger and walked into his bedroom, but Nick ran over to us.

"Do I get to help plan a wedding!? Let me see the ring!" Nick said.

I showed Nick. And I looked up at Matt.

"Is this why you had us look at the rings at the mall?"

"Maybe."

I looked around and noticed Chris wasn't around.

"Hold on. I'll be right back."

I walked into Chris's room.

"Guess who just got engaged!"

Chris looked up and smiled.

"Congrats." He stood up and walked over to me.

"Shelby.. what happened between us.."

"There was never an us, Chris. We made multiple of the same mistake."

Chris stepped closer to me. The tension was real.

"So you're telling me that we kissed around 20 times and none of them meant anything to you? They were just mistakes? I feel like an idiot.."

"Chris.. I'm not gonna lie. For a while there, I was contemplating breaking up with Matt, but I realized that Matt makes me happy. Why would you want to ruin that?"

Chris turned back to me.

"Well.. if I'm losing you for sure.."

Chris kissed me softly. I wanted to pull away but I couldn't. It felt magnetic. I finally pulled away.

"We can't do this anymore. Note that."

I walked back to Nick and Matt leaving Chris in almost tears.

"And there's my fiancée!" Matt said with a smile.

"Y'know Shelby Sturniolo has a nice ring to it."

Matt chuckled and took my hand.

"You ready?"

"Beyond ready."

We got to the restaurant and Matt turned to me.

"Y'know I was thinking we could get food, but maybe we should just make out in my car."

"Great idea, but I'm starving."

Matt just laughed as we got out of the car.

We sat down, but the image of Chris just kept popping into my head. The image of Chris almost crying when he found out. Chris wasn't lying to Matt. He did love me. I was being pulled between Matt and Chris constantly. I chose Matt, and I plan to choose Matt, I just feel like a terrible person.
