Ocean's Song (Pirate!England x Reader)

Ch 1: The Looming Threat

You have lived in the village for almost 3 years now. You've become an outstanding member of the community, pulling your own weight around the village. Helping the villagers fight off strange creatures from the forest and the ocean. You've been practicing different fighting techniques to be a formidable fighter on land. You helping  the village's main healer, from scraped knees to broken bones to what should've been mortal wounds. She taught you a lot about herbal medicines and how to properly dress, stitch, and treat wounds. Along with a touch of your magic, barely perceptible, you have turned into a pretty good doctor. Though in life or death circumstances you could always use a lot more noticable amount of magic. Ojiji explained to people who questioned the sea green glow as hallucinations caused by the combination of herbs and blood loss.

You've been living a happy life, the village was a good size and trade was good with other islands in the area. You helped with farm work, tending to fields and animals. You worked with the seamstresses of the village learning  and helping to mend clothing. You would help the various mothers and fathers take care of their children by cooking meals, fixing roofs, repairing furniture. You learned a lot of new life skills from the village folk, and you taught the townsfolk some of the things you had learned in the ocean. Though they never questioned why you had such an extensive knowledge of the local ocean.

But then one day women of the village started disappearing along with the children. They would be walking on the street alone then suddenly a shadow would streak by and they were gone. Not even shout was heard from them. They would just disappear, so to prevent this children were no longer allowed to leave the houses unattended and the women started dressing like men when they went out alone. This plan seemed to be working pretty well and no one minded the wardrobe change. The reason why a child and woman cant go together is because they still were taken, just both at the same time.

You didn't want to be cooped up in a house so you took several bandages and wrap them around your bosom to flatten it. You didn't need to worry about your clothes, because you already wore trousers and a cotton shirt. To hide your hair, you tucked it up into a tricorn hat. After that you can roam the streets without fear of being captured because the creature didn't seem to notice that you were female because your appearance looked male.

You could still visit the ocean occasionally though you were never brave enough to swim in it. You have found that taking a short dip into the tide pools helped curb your craving to return to the ocean. You sometimes walk into the surf and you would go into the water up to your waist and stop the drop off never knew if the other sea nymphs were waiting for you. Waiting for you to get deep enough that they could take your necklace and drown you, or worse force you to marry the prince. So you would just lay at the top of the waves letting them wash over you.

At the moment you were sitting waist deep in the ocean sitting back on your elbows staring off in the distance, lazily flipping your tail in the water. Then you noticed a far off black dot on the sky line. You squinted and took the spy glass that was hanging on the belt that hung loosely around your waist, and put it up to your eye. The black dot became clear it was a ship. You looked up at the flag waving in the wind on the main mast, there were two. The top one was a tattered and old British flag, and right below it was the Jolly Roger. You gasped scrambling out of the water flopping up onto the beach digging your fingers in to the sand  and dragging yourself up the beach, until your legs formed and you were sprinting to the old wise woman's Hut. You slammed  into the door flinging it open nearly breaking the old thing.

"Ojiji! Ojiji! There's a pirate ship on the skyline! They are sailing in our direction!"

Ojiji the old wise woman hobbled out of the back room.

"A pirate ship!? What business would they have on our small island?!"

She looked out the open door and stared at the growing black dot that was starting to shape into a pirate ship through the window, she sighed.

"Go to the courtyard ring the emergency bell gather whomever is willing to fight, and keep them prepped for battle I sense this will not be a battle without bloodshed."

You dash out of the hut and run to the clock tower and you start ringing the the bell as loud as you could, the sound resonating through the village, shortly everybody joined together in the town square. Most had eyes filled with fear others sat there confused. You took a deep breath before saying in the loudest voice you could muster so that everyone heard you.

"Pirates have been spotted on the skyline! They are headed towards us! We do not know there intentions, but we cannot assume they are good! Stay with the children and whomever cannot fight, who ever can fight grab your weapons! There shall be a battle!"

Everyone started panicking. You rang the bell again as loud as you could. Effectively quieting them, you repeated your orders, the people who were told to fight rushed to do as they were told, then you directed them all to their proper places as the children and the people who couldn't fight were led to the caves of the mountains where the entrance was in the Town Hall basement, then the people returned with their swords and guns. One man handed you a sword, which you gladly took. You tucked your necklace into your shirt. Then you led the people to the docks, to await the approaching pirates.
