I raised my blade just in time to meet the British man's. I grunt in effort as I push back making him stumble backwards and I charged forward swinging my blade towards his chest which he easily parried. I blocked his next hit, we continued this fight for at least 10 minutes. Right now we are standing 3 feet away from each other swords still raised, breathing heavily.
"Well it seems I've underestimated you lad"
The Brit said out of breath. I raise a brow at his words slowly catching my breath.
"What you thought I was going to be weak?"
I ask him in a offended tone. Which he just laughs at and sheaths his sword. He then says,
"Well I could use someone good with a sword, also to replace some of the men you killed."
"What's that supposed to mean?"
"I want you to join my crew!"
I give him the look of, are you serious?!
'I can't join a pirate crew! They'll find out I'm a woman and probably do unspeakable things to me! Or if they find out I'm a sea nymph they'll sell me to some nasty old fat guy!'
I thought to myself, but I wasn't about to let my guard down, keeping my sword raised I ask him,
"Why should I join the crew of some random pirate?"
He scrunched together his enormous eyebrows in anger and yelled at me,
"RANDOM PIRATE?? RANDOM PIRATE?!, I AM NO RANDOM PIRATE I AM CAPTAIN ARTHUR KIRKLAND, CAPTAIN OF THE RED QUEEN!! I AM THE MOST FEARED PIRATE OF THE SEVEN SEAS!"
He stood there red in the face, eyebrows furrowed, and practically jumping in anger. I suddenly panicked I had heard of him, he was notorious for capturing sea nymphs!
He then calmed down, and gave a cool look,
"So will you join my crew, and if you say no," he gestured behind me, "Your little village shall burn and the inhabitants including you will be killed."
I turn around and audibly gasp, two pirates are standing in the street holding bottles with cloth sticking out of them with torches. The rest had every one of the villagers in a group in front of the docks with more bottles poised to be lit and thrown at them.
Ojijiwa gave me a look that said 'go with them, you will be okay, I give you my blessing' I sighed and faced Arthur.
"I will join your crew as long as you don't hurt them and leave the village be."
Arthur grinned and waved his men off to go back to the ship.
"Good to hear, go gather your things and come aboard."
I ran to Ojijiwa and helped her up and followed her to the hut. She went to her spell room as I put all my boy cloths into a bag and grabbed one corset that I put in the bottom of the bag. Ojijiwa ran to me with a charm on a small cord and tied it to my wrist.
"This give you good luck, ward off evil, keep you safe. Be careful."
She smiled sadly at me as she ushers me out the door, I walk to the ship 'The Red Queen' and walk up the gangway. A tall man with red hair and emerald eyes like Arthur's approached me and said in a thick Scottish accent.
" 'Ello lad, 'ou must be the 'ew recruit 'at 'aptain got. I'm Allistor the 'irst mate. 'Ollow me to the 'rews quarters."
He led me down below deck to where I would sleep and keep my belongings. I walk back up to the deck to the railing and watched as my home for the last few years shrank. When suddenly it exploded into flames. I screamed and my hand flew to my mouth as tears flowed from my eyes. I watched it burn, the flames licking the sky. I stood there shaking my other hand gripping the rail so hard I was splintering the wood.
I stared with vision blurred from tears, so I was unable to see the a different ship sail away from the island in the opposite direction from The Red Queen. I felt a hand on my shoulder and I turned around to see Arthur standing there.
"I'm sorry lad, But I swear to you I did not do this, I'm a pirate of my word I did no harm to your home since you joined my crew."
With that he walked away, leaving me alone to watch my village, my friends, my home, burn.
