Chapter 4

Liz's POV

We arrived at the hospital and got out of the car.

"Mom what do you think happened?" Nate asked as we rushed inside.

"I don't know, sweetheart. Someone called and said that he had fainted in the bathroom and they called 911 immediately. "

We walked up to the front desk and asked the lady if we could see him and if we could know what was happening. She that only one person was allowed in one at a time.

"I'll go." I said.

I went up to 3rd floor, room 16B. The door was closed. Without thinking I opened the door and walked right in. My dad was lying on a bed, hooked up to all kinds of wires and machines. I just stood there watching him when a docter walked in.

"Oh hello, I'm Doctor Anderson. You must be Dan's daughter."

" Um yes, it's nice to meet you" I said while shaking his hand.

"What happened, is he going to be ok?"

"Yea, but I'm afraid I have some bad new."

He processed to tell me that my dad had had a heart attack at work. They said he was awake and responsive when they brought him in, but was now unconscious. They didn't think he would wake up any time soon so they hooked him onto a breathing machine.

"He wrote you guys some letters" he said.
"Letters?" I asked.
"Yes, he asked if I would pass them on to his family members."
I took the three folded pieces of paper from him. They each had one of our names on them.
The doctor walked to to give me and my dad some space.
I began to cry as I saw him motionless on the bed.
What was happening?
Is this a dream?
Never in a million years would I have thought that I might be losing my dad so soon.
After about 30 minutes, I decided to leave to give my mom and brother a chance to visit him.

I sat down on the waiting room chairs and checked my phone.

1 missed call from mom
3 texts from Nate
14 texts and a missed call from Evie

Girl, what happened
R U ok?
Is everything ok?
Are your parents ok?
Hello?
LIZ?!
Ur starting to freak me out
I hope ur ok
But
Something happened in class
And ur not going to believe it
It's fucked
Txt me as soon as u can
Love you

I texted her back telling her I'd call her as soon as I could and asked her what happened in class.

"Liz don't freak out but remember that new kid I was telling you about?"
" Yea, what about him."

The moment her I heard her say the name and the moment my brother came running down the hall were almost in perfect sync.

"COME QUICK! THEY ARE TRYING TO STOP DADS SEIZURE"

"It's Harry".

My world became a completely empty blur of nothing.

"Eve, I have to go" I said in a panic.
"But wait did you hear what I said".
"No , yes , I have to go. I love you".

I ran with my brother to the room. 16B
My mom was standing outside the door. Sobbing.

"He's gone" she managed to say.
