Earlier This Morning
A woman in a brown cardigan, a white dress with a yellow floral pattern, and white sandals was walking down the street with a bag of groceries in hand.

While walking past an empty car, she heard the car's radio. It was broadcasting what sounded like an emergency alert.

"Emergency action notification-"

The woman had some worry due to the broadcast. She walked around the car's hood to see if anything was unusual.

To the woman's surprise, she saw a teenage girl lying on the ground unconscious.

"Oh my God!" The woman screamed dropping her grocery bag in shock.

She immediately ran to the girl's aid. The woman immediately moved the girl so her back was on the ground. She worriedly tried asking the girl if she was okay. "Hey... sweetie?" Not a word came out of the girl.

She swiftly grabbed the girl's right wrist to check her pulse. No pulse. The woman touches the girl's face to try and wake her up but the girl's eyes were still closed.

The woman put her ear up to the girl's chest to try to hear a heartbeat.

While the woman was focused on finding a heartbeat, She didn't notice the girl's eyes open. But they weren't the same; they were pale.

The woman proceeds to do mouth-to-mouth on the girl. But the reanimated teenage girl bites the woman's tongue when she did mouth to mouth.

She winces and immediately screams in pain!

In the heat of the moment, The woman was stunned by the sudden pain so she didn't try to escape. With her mouth now bleeding, the girl chomps down on the woman's jaw.

Blood was everywhere, and the poor woman continued to scream in pain.

An Hour Later
A dog was howling in agony, and then suddenly, the howling stopped with the sound of a shotgun.

POW!

The radio in the house was broadcasting the same emergency message for the last two hours.

"...Attacks have been pouring in throughout the morning commute. In all my years as a journalist, I've never seen anything like it. Nor I'd imagined has anyone else." The journalist said.

The backyard door suddenly opens.

These attacks are unprovoked and deadly." He continues.

It was Andrew with a shotgun and a green duffel bag. Breathing heavily, Andrew immediately shuts and locks the backdoor behind him. He leaves the back door area and quickly walks to the kitchen.

The journalist continued speaking on the situation."The governor is expected to speak with local law enforcement. But I can tell you what we already know." Andrew leaves the back door area and quickly walks to the kitchen. There was a beat when the journalist started speaking again.

"Seek shelter immediately; stay in your local area; citizens shall remain indoors."

The man placed the duffel bag on the floor next to him, set the shotgun on the counter, and turned on the faucet.

Andrew set his blood covered hands on the edge of the sink taking short panicked breaths. He rubs his hands under the faucet cleaning the blood off his hands.

"The safest place for you and your loved ones is inside your home with the doors and windows locked, and do not, I repeat, do not under any circumstances offer refuge to persons you know. I understand that-"

The power suddenly went out which cut the broadcast and the lights. Andrew flinched from the sudden power outage. He put his back to the counter and started to dart his head back and forth surveying  the dark kitchen.

In an instant, Two loud bangs and a glass-shattering sound caught the man off guard.

BANG!

BANG!

SHATTER!

The sounds came from the foyer and living room. Andrew grabs his shotgun from the counter and cocks it. He takes a deep breath and starts approaching the front door.

The man comes sneaking out from the kitchen into the foyer—his shotgun at the ready to fire at anyone or anything that could harm him.

The front door was opened and there was a trail of blood that led to the living room. "I got a gun here!"Andrew yelled wanting to make himself known to the intruder.

There was no response. He yelled again.

"I'm armed!

Andrew slowly turned into the living room stepping over the blood trail

"I'll use it!" Andrew warned the intruder

Andrew kept creeping towards the reading area not noticing what was next to the blood trail. It was Andrew and Judy's wedding picture. The frame was intact but the glass was shattered to pieces.

That's what must have caused the glass breaking sound. Andrew continued creeping towards the reading nook to ascertain who was in his house. But he doesn't come across anyone or anything.

The man begins to turn the other way thinking he's in the clear and heading back to the kitchen. However, he was still paranoid.

Andrew was still rattled by what was happening around him. He's keeping the Mossberg 500 shotgun he got recently in his tight, panicked grip.

Without realizing it, a barefoot female walker wearing a brown cardigan and a white and yellow dress silently stumbles out of the reading nook. The walker snarled at Andrew.

"Grrrawww..."

Upon hearing that sickening snarl, He abruptly turns around with a scream! His shotgun was aimed at the intruder.

POW!

The bullet struck the walker's stomach, causing blood to splatter. The walker fell onto the living room rug in a heap from the shotgun's firepower.

Andrew takes a second to catch his breath but immediately recognizes who he'd just shot. It was Judy, His current wife! She left earlier this morning to go food shopping and was attacked on the way home.

"No..." he quickly puts down the shotgun and runs to his wife. Andrew kneels at Judy's side, hyperventilating from what he's just done.

"Judy..." Andrew says, overcome with grief for his wife and massive guilt for what he just did to her.

The man's hyperventilation decreased, and he eventually started crying softly at the loss of his wife.

A Few Minutes Later...

Despite still grieving, the man got to his feet and was able to give his wife a burial partially. Andrew rolled Judy's dead body up in the rug that she landed on when she was shot.

The man hopes she can rest peacefully now...

I know, short chapter... sorry about that. Next part will be out soon.
