Meanwhile, at the concession stand, the helicopter touched down in the park. Then, the army and airforce got everyone who had heard the earlier announcement into the chopper to be airlifted to Atlanta. James Maxwell was still waiting for his best friend Eddie at the stand's perimeter. James goes to Sergent Morales, who is starting to get on edge with what is happening.
"Sir, Carter is nearly here. He found two children by themselves. Do we have room for them in the chopper?"
"Affirmative Maxwell. However, the longer we wait for-" Morales begins to gesture toward the large quantity of King County residents in the chopper. James knew what his superior was trying to convey, and he didn't like it.
"Morales, you can't be fucking serious?!" He suddenly scoffs.
James's sudden outburst takes aback the Sergent. Then he barks back. "It's only a last resort, soldier!"
A walker begins to close in on the concession stand, which is just a short distance from the perimeter. Morales takes out his pistol from his holster and sees he has three bullets left. He then glares at James. "I suggest you watch your tone, Private."
"Yes, sir."
While Morales deals with the walker, James takes time to vent to himself about what his sergeant had just told him.
"Last resort, my ass..." he scoffs again. This time under his breath. "Im not leaving my best friend! And I'm not leaving any child alone in this chaos!"
Just then, Eddie is seen approaching the concession stand in the distance with two children he mentioned over the radio just a few minutes ago.
"Maxwell!" Eddie hollered
Eddie, Jamie, and Billy all ran up to the soldier and stopped to catch their breath from all the running they had just done. Everyone is speaking louder than usual over the spinning propeller from being closer to the helicopter.
James looks down at the children with melancholy written all over their faces. Jamie's face was slightly dampened with tears from her short cry until she got a hold of herself a few minutes ago. While Billy wasn't crying but, he was on the verge of doing just that.
"Kids, where are your parents?" James asked Jamie and Billy.
When asked that question, Billy immediately bursts into tears, and Jamie instantly embraces her younger brother, comforting him. He hugs her back. Billy's face on his sister's shoulder while sobbing uncontrollably.
James was caught off guard by the sudden crying. The soldier glanced at his comrade. Eddie knew what he was wondering.
"Right... I forgot to mention that these two recently lost their parents and step-mom to whatever the hell is happening. Their parents and step-mom were great friends of mine. So I knew who these too were."
"I'm Jamie." The girl introduces herself while still comforting her brother.
Eddie then mentions Billy to his friend.
The girl hugged her brother tightly to support him in any way she could. "I know, I miss them, too. But you still have me and Mr. Carter. We are going to be okay..." Jamie tells Billy in a supportive voice that reminds him of their late mother.
