I wrote this story when I was in fifth grade and it's bad I know, so no haters pls. This is also my first story, so hope you like it.

The loose, lavender-pink petals of Calla's Panakes tree fluttered down onto Sophie's hair, landing on top of her blonde head. Fitz smiled, his beautiful teal-blue eyes staring into her own brown eyes.

"You're so beautiful, Sophie", he whispered, brushing aside a petal.

Sophie averted her eyes, her fingers brushing Fitz's arm. "I'm sorry. I don't deserve you."

Fitz moved closer to her, his gaze filled with affection for her. "Don't say that. I don't deserve you."

Sophie glanced up at the darkening sky, now streaked with pinks and reds. "I– I think I should go now. My parents are probably going to be worried about me." Her voice shook on the word parents. She rarely ever used that word for Grady and Edaline ever since her original human parents had died.

Fitz nodded, watching Sophie closely. "Is there anything you need to tell me? You know, it's okay if–"

Sophie swallowed, sensing a bump rising in her throat. "No. Uh– I'd better go now. Bye."

Fitz's teal eyes glittered in the sunlight. He reached forward, planting a soft kiss on Sophie's cheek. "Sweet dreams tonight."

Sophie dipped her head, hurrying away as fast as her legs could take her. Don't freak out. Don't freak out. Don't freak out. But she was still breathing fast and hard, her cheeks glowing red. Maybe it will help to see Silveny for a moment.

"Hey, kiddo! Nice to see you! Where'd you go?"

Sophie startled in surprise, looking up to see her foster father Grady waving down at her from a large brontosaurus. He noticed Sophie's surprise and laughed awkwardly, struggling to hold on to the brontosaurus's spikes. "Sorry! Just got her in today. She's– not– very– cooperative", he grunted as the brontosaurus buckled and roared.

Sophie smiled to herself. "Good luck", she called, reaching out to Silveny telepathically. Silveny, she transmitted. Silveny, are you there?

Almost immediately, the sparkly alicorn acknowledged her summon. Sophie! Sophie! Silveny responded. Friend is okay?

Yeah, I'm okay, Sophie answered. How are Wynn and Luna coming along with their flying?

Great! Great! Silveny sent a picture to Sophie's mind, detailed and vividly colored. Wynn and Luna soared in a cloudless blue sky, their heads thrown back in joy. Their tiny, glittery wings shimmered in the sky like diamonds. Greyfell and Silveny watched them happily, grazing on the emerald-green field below.

That's great, Silveny! Sophie transmitted, glancing at the sky again. It was now completely dark, silvery stars dotting the night sky. I have to go now, sorry.

Turning around, she touched her neck for her leaping crystal. "Where is it?" she murmured.

"Hey! Foster!"

Sophie whipped around, her blonde hair flying in the wind. "Keefe?"

Keefe strolled down the hill, a sly smirk playing around his lips. "Looking for something, Foster?" Reaching forward, he dangled her leaping crystal in front of her.

Sophie tried to smile, trying her best to not pay attention to how disheveled and attractive Keefe looked. "Oh— um, thanks", she managed, reaching for the crystal tentatively. Her fingers met Keefe's, and for a brief moment, time stopped. Keefe grinned mischievously, leaning forward. Sophie's breath caught in her throat as Keefe came closer, closer, and closer... so close that she could just feel his lips on hers.

"Sophie", someone called, interrupting their moment.

Sophie whirled around, her heart rate returning to normal. Deep inside, though, she felt a flicker of disappointment. Did she actually want to kiss Keefe? You have a duty, she reminded herself. You can't get distracted by love. You're unmatchable.

The word came to her as a hard slap. No, she told herself. I'm not unmatchable. I just need to find my biological parents. Which... I have, right? I must have parents...

"Hey, Foster, you good there?" Keefe touched her shoulder from behind her, a cocky grin on his face. Fitz stood beside him, his arms folded disapprovingly.

"Uh– um, yeah", Sophie stammered, trying to move past Fitz. "I– I should just go home now."

Fitz glared at Keefe, his expression icy. "You should go. I need to talk to Sophie."

Keefe shrugged, backing away. "Okay, chill." He gave Sophie a concerned glance. "You'll be okay, right?"

"She'll be okay," Fitz hissed, shoving Keefe aside. "Go home."

Sophie watched with a growing sense of uneasiness as Keefe walked away. Fitz waited until Keefe was out of earshot, and then he turned to Sophie, shaking his head.

"Sophie. You've been avoiding me", Fitz breathed, walking closer. "Why did you have to choose Keefe? I'm the better option! You know that! I'm sorry, but you've forced me to do this..." Fitz's teal eyes flickered with regret, and Sophie's gaze darted to his fingers.

A sedative. She knew those all too well.

"I'm sorry", Fitz murmured again, leaning closer.

Panic raced through her, and she felt a sudden urge to run, but it was too late. Tenderly, Fitz plunged the sedative into her arm.

No.

No.

This can't be happening.

"Hey, dude. What're you doing to her?" Keefe's voice sounded so far away. "What's that thing you're holding?"

Sophie stumbled back, her heart pounding. "Keefe", she whispered, and suddenly her legs couldn't hold her anymore. Dizziness overcame her, and her vision distorted. "Wh– what's happening?" she mumbled, or at least she thought she did. And then everything went black.
