Christie smiled as she helped Ran with the breakfast. She handed her the salmon just as she turned from stirring the miso soup. Ran smiled in response and accepted the plate and got the frying pan ready. While she fried the fish, Christie turned to cut the tofu for the soup. Ran was at first unsure about letting a child cut tofu, as it's so soft and the technique could have someone cut themselves, but Christie knew how it was done, and proved Ran so a few days ago.
The two girls found it really fun to use the mornings together to make breakfast for them all. It was like a special sibling bonding between them, and Christie enjoyed it a lot. She never had any siblings, as she was an only child, and was rather anti-social in her 'previous' life as well, so she enjoyed this a lot.
Making miso soup and frying salmon didn't take long at all, so after cutting the tofu and gently putting them into the soup, Christie grabbed four bowls and filled them with rice from the rice cooker. To now having to cook for four people, Christie was kind of surprised of how much rice was actually left in the machine, but she guessed that the one her mother had at home was just smaller than those in Asia, as she had bought hers in Norway instead of going through the pain of bringing one from her home country before moving.
With the bowls filled, she walked them into the table outside the kitchen and placed them on each side. Plates, cups, and chopsticks were already plated, so with the food closed to finish, Ran stepped out and went to wake the boys like she usually did every morning.
Christie sat down on her side of the table and waited for the others to join her down. She looked down and studied the table for yet another time. Every morning that she had been there, she thought through just how much better breakfast in Japan was compared to hers in Norway. All in portion, taste, and variety. While at home, she was used to only having two slices of bread with a glass of juice for breakfast. And here, they usually had a cup of tea in the morning with a small bowl of rice, some fish, a bowl of miso soup, and sometimes something small on the side. She wasn't usually a big fan of tea because of the bitter taste, but she didn't want to be rude and was starting to get used to it, and starting to like it slightly now as well.
But then there were the chopsticks... Christie never really used those before, so she was rather sloppy at first when using them. She knew how to use them from her mother, but she never had any reason to actually use them before, so Ran was of great help to guide her on how to use them properly for different foods and all.
The table was soon filled up with food and the residence of the apartment. The boys gave out tired yawns like always, grumbling out a thanks before starting to eat. Christie and Ran smiled at each other and started for themselves.
"Conan-kun, when were Hattori-kun and Kazuha-chan coming again?" asked Ran after taking a sip from her tea, the plates turning empty from eating in mostly silence.
Conan blinked for a second before giving out a hum as he lowered his chopsticks to recall what the other detective had told him yesterday. "Hm, he didn't say any specific time, so I don't know."
"And why is that Osaka-brat coming again?" scoffed Kogoro, lowering his newspaper enough to glare over it in annoyance.
Conan gave a sigh and shook his head in response to the man, then placed his chopsticks down.
With breakfast finished, they thanked for the food. The boys went down to the lower floor, while Christie stayed and helped Ran with the dishes. With two pairs of hands, it didn't take long for them to finish, so they went downstairs as well.
The two went and sat down by the sofa, Christie next to Conan, while Ran went to the opposite one. Her father was sitting by his desk, having turned on the small TV to watch whatever was on at the moment.
