'Not all questions deserve an answer'

Cynthia exhaled and kept her partly closed and tired lids on Becky who paced around her office. One hand was under her chin as she watched Becky with a bored expression. She had a case to go over but Becky's uneasiness coupled with her ranting made it hard for her to concentrate on anything. She closes the file on her desk and leans into the chair to entertain Becky's unsteady mood swings.

"So Mrs. Becky, from all your ranting what would you have me do in this predicament of yours? Need I remind you that I'm a lawyer and not a marriage counselor, hope you know that" Cynthia said after a moment of quietness between them.

Becky paused and turned to stare at Cynthia with a sly smile.

"Patrick is cheating" Becky announced settling in the chair opposite the desk. Cynthia raised a questioning brow at her. She had said that a million times since she stepped into her office. She knew her friend sometimes exaggerated things.

"And you came to this conclusion because?"

"I know Patrick like the back of my palm. He will never turn down any sexual advances I make on him. Never! Cynthia, he practically carried me to the bed and dumped me there" Becky explained with certainty and that earned a chuckle from Cynthia.

Becky glared at her and she waved her hand in apology and nodded for her to continue.

"I know you have your way around getting information about just anyone in this country that's why I need you to do me this small favor, please"

Cynthia narrowed her eyes at her anticipated request she already had an idea what it would be but she sighed and feigned ignorance, "What do you want me to do?"

"Help me gather some details about this lady he's cheating with, her name is Justina Umoren: I need everything there is to know about her," Becky declared pleadingly.

"You're forgetting something, Becky. He's working with her" Cynthia corrected.

"You're supposed to be on my side as my friend. Why are you defending them?" Becky asked

Cynthia released a tired sigh and drummed on the desk.

"I love you, Becky, but you, my friend can exaggerate things out of proportion. Tell me, did you catch them cheating?" Cynthia asked and Becky shook her head in the negative.

"You see what I'm saying; this stress is uncalled for. Patrick is a good man and this headache of yours is unnecessary. He loves you and will not mess up the beautiful family you both have or leave his gorgeous children and beautiful wife for another woman. Girl, rest please; or you don't trust your husband?"

Becky's shoulder slumped at her words.

"It's not like I don't trust my husband, it is the lady in question that I don't trust. She might want to tempt him and you know how we ladies can be if we want something badly; any sense man can easily fall prey to a woman's trap if he mistakes her passes for naivety. Look at it this way: my husband spent every of his waking time talking to this strange lady and barely had time for me"

A tired Cynthia heaved a deep breath, "So you're afraid Patrick might fall for her charm?"

"Honestly, I'm very worried. I feel he might have fallen already.

"Think of it this way, maybe the work on his desk is taking a toll on him and you're just being paranoid over nothing instead of helping him to relieve the stress, you're adding to it. Besides the way Patrick is with you I doubt he will ever have eyes for another woman"
