Getting high with the new neighbourhood boy before going to an hour long dinner party was definitely not the best idea. Apart from the obvious red eyes, slowed reaction and marajuana smell - it also made social interactions ten times harder, and ten times funnier."So, Julie? Is it?" The farmer, Jackson maybe, asked as he took a bite of his food.
Jules was trying her best to act natural, but with the weird absence of Jess from the table, newfound awkward silence ever since Lorelai and Luke started to loudly bicker in the kitchen about him, and Sam staring at her with his bloodshot eyes and a smirk on his face she was hardly holding it together.
Jules, with a mouth full, nodded quickly trying to swallow. "Yeah, but you can call me Jules." She smiled at him, before looking back at her food.
"Ah, Jules, sure. So, how are you like Stars Hollow compared to the big apple, eh?" He laughed, slightly awkwardly, as the fighting in the kitchen continued.
Jules eyes immediately shot over to Samuel, who was already covering his mouth so nobody could see the laugh he was fighting back. What was it with these small town hicks calling the city the 'Big Apple'.
Not being able to hold back, Jules immediately let out a strangely loud laugh before clasping a hand over her mouth and closing her eyes as her body shook with laughter - hearing Sam also apparently not being able to control himself and joined her in laughing.
"What?" Jackson asked, "Did I say something funny?"
Not wanting to insult him, Jules pulled it together and shook her head as she took another big bite of food to give her a few seconds to compose herself and think of something to say.
"You didn't, Jackson, just while we were upstairs talking the subject of the 'Big Apple' came up, that's all." He smiled, and Jules could see the laugh he was holding in.
"Mm, yeah." Jules swallowed. "Just how Stars Hollow folk all call it The Big Apple."
"Ah." Jackson smiled, before the chef Sookie cut in.
"Folk?" Sam repeated, making them both break into hysterics again.
"I don't get it."
"Me neither." Both Rory and Jackson replied.
Jules shook her head, trying to wipe the smile off her face. "Sorry, I'm being rude." She put a hand to her forehead. "It's just-"
Before Jules could finish, they heard a door slam and an furious Lorelai storm into the room, minus Luke.
"So sorry about that." She put her hands on her hip, letting out a frustrated sigh before her eyes landed on Jules. "I'm sorry Jules, but Jess and Luke have seemed to left, so I understand if you want to go now." She made an expression of determination, which Jules couldn't quite tell if it was determination to get her out of the house or for her to stay.
Jules decided on the safe option, and pushed out her chair looking down.
"I'm- sure I'll head out then." She smiled politely at Lorelai as she put her napkin down on her plate, trying to act as sober as she could as she stood up.
"Mom!?" Sam exclaimed, pushing out his own chair in disbelief suddenly acting very sober, like her.
"It's fine." Jules shook her head, keeping her peaceful smile as she looked over to the three stunned people sat at the table. "Thank you for the dinner, it was delicious."
Just as Sookie was about to answer, Lorelai jumped in.
"Are you high?!"
Jules head immediately snapped over to the two, which apparently wasn't a smart idea as this drew Lorelai's attention to her who could immediately pick up on her dilated pupils as she saw her jaw drop. "And her? You got the new girl high in about half an hour of meeting her, Sam, great job!" She threw her hands in the air angrily.
