"Hurry, before we're too late!"
You slowed down to greet Meiko who just came home before speeding off again to the back. Once there you saw a couple of banana peels on the grass. Len joined you and gave a gasp.
"Our bananas! Uwaaa all of them probably got eaten already!"
"Wait Len! Look up the tree!"
Together you two look up the trees. Sitting on the branches of the tree were four monkeys, one large and the other three small. The large one was feeding the younger ones with bananas taken out from a plastic bag bearing the supermarket's symbol. You stared at the monkeys for a while before laughing.
"So our thief was a monkey all this time! Hahaha!"
"The mother's been feeding its young using the bananas you bought! How touching!"
You and Len sat on the grass while watching the monkeys interact among themselves. One climbed up the back of its mother and the mother nuzzled it with love. Seeing that, you had to smile.
"I wonder if I can be like that too when I become a mother one day, caring for my kids like that. Sometimes I think I'm too irresponsible and immature to become a mother-"
You shut your mouth instantly, realizing that you had just spoke out your mind. Did Len think you were weird? You glanced in his direction and saw him wearing a serious expression, which surprised you.
"I think you'll be a good mother (Y/N), you're kind and hardworking, even if something goes wrong you would do your best to solve them. Look, we managed to solve our missing banana mystery thanks to you."
"... It was also thanks to you as well..."
Len turned around to face you. You have never seen him looking so serious before. Your heart skipped a beat looking at this change. The wind picked up, gently lifting the ends of his blonde hair.
"My point is, don't worry about it too much. If you can't do it I'll be there to help you you know."
Your face grew a little red as you averted your eyes from his. They seemed to stare right into you, making you feel a little uncomfortable. So, you tried to shake it off.
"Thanks, I appreciate the thought but it's my responsibility to raise the kids you know, I can't keep relying on you."
"It's my responsibility too, to take care of you and the kids."
This time your eyes went round. You stared at Len for a solid full minute, making sure you didn't hear him wrongly. Len who realized what he just said instantly turned tomato-red.
"!!! I! THAT! IT WASN'T-! WHAT-"
A banana peel landed right onto his head, startling him out of his wits. Taking it off his head, he got up and yelled at the monkeys.
"Stupid monkeys! Be thankful I don't climb trees!"
He sat back down with a huff, but that anger faded when he saw you again. Before he could stammer again, he took a deep breath, look at you in the eye and spoke clearly.
"What I mean to say is, I want our relationship to last until marriage- no, till forever so.... will you be... my lifelong partner?"
Your chest hurt from the rapid beating of your heart, but you didn't care. You hugged Len tightly instead, changing his serious expression into one of surprise.
"Of course! We'll start by being lovers first okay? Marriage is still too early for us Len."
You pulled apart slightly, just to see his eyes once more. They were clear of any hesitation, and his cheeks were still tinted pink.
"... I know, I just wanted to make it clear for you. So... shall we kiss?"
"Absolutely!"
The first kiss you shared that day would always be the sweetest memory of your lifetime.
