That evening, after dinner, the group scattered throughout the living room and kitchen, where Tony challenged her to a dart match. While she did her best to restrain herself from cheating, she still steered his dart somewhat off course whenever she thought it was getting too close to bullseye.
He gave her a side eye when it happened the third time in a row while Fury, washing up in the sinks, called for attention. She threw her dart, smirking cockily as it hit the outer circle of the centre; Tony rolled his eyes and playfully pushed her away.
"Ultron took you folks out of play to buy himself time. My contacts all say he's building something. The amount of vibranium he made off with, I don't think it's just one thing."
"What about Ultron himself?" Steve asked, leaning against a wall.
"Ah. He's easy to track, he's everywhere. Guy's multiplying faster than a Catholic rabbit. Still doesn't help us get an angle on any of his plans, though," Fury said, causing her brows to furrow; not understanding the idiom.
"He still going after launch codes?" Tony questioned as he switched places with her to throw a dart. He missed.
The thought made her uneasy. If he gained them, even for a moment, everything would be gone before they had time to stop it. The game continued, and she grinned as she hit the centre, which was most definitely not manipulated by her abilities.
A dart suddenly flew over her head, hitting the board an inch away from her own. Her head snapped to Tony in a glare, but he still held his projectile between his fingers. Looking by him, she made eye contact with Clint and he raised a brow with a knowing look. She flushed, knowing she had been caught.
She moved from the dartboard and sat at the table, gulping down her glass of apple juice as Nat questioned about their mysterious ally that was stopping Ultron from gaining the missile codes.
"Ultron's got an enemy, that's not the same thing. Still, I'd pay folding money to know who it is." Fury shook his head and Jayden's brows furrowed.
"Who could it even be?" she thought aloud, bringing attention to herself. "I-I mean it can't be a massive range of people 'cause Ultron isn't public knowledge yet, so who even knows about him?"
"Yeah well, I might need to visit Oslo, find our unknown," Tony responded as he put the darts away.
"This is good times, boss, but I was kind of hoping when I saw you, you'd have more than that," Nat said.
"I do, I have you. Back in the day, I had eyes everywhere, ears everywhere else," Gothic Pirate started as if it was obvious.
Jayden rolled her eyes. He had nothing of the sort. If he had, she never would've ended up in a lab with twelve other children, and he would've known long ago about Hydra's infiltration within SHIELD. She wondered how her life would've turned out if he had, where she would be, and what she'd be doing. Could she even be considered the same person?
She exhaled, the tips of her fingers running against the crevices in the table and lightly skidding her feet across the floor.
"-here we all are, back on earth, with nothing but our wit, and our will to save the world," he spoke, his one eye sweeping across the group, one by one. "Ultron says the Avengers are between him and his mission, and whether or not he admits it, his mission is global destruction. All this laid in a grave. So stand. Outwit the platinum bastard."
