It was so beautiful from above. The night sky, in its endless intensity, beckoned her in; her body weightless as the deepest phenomenon of freedom soared her ever closer. Her back to the ground, she reached out to the shimmering stars as they winked at her from their place beyond the moon's eye. Some were light years away, little more than pinpricks of cold silver light from her point of view, impossible to touch. Others were a little closer, yet still untouchable. Their light pulsed with glittering sparks of angel fire, sending out a beacon of hope to all lost souls looking up for guidance.
Each star intertwined with one another like a playful game, creating celestial patterns of pink, purple, green, and blue. The moon overlooked their frolic, like a gentle mother watching her children play with love and care while guiding them to her with an ethereal glow. She shone so lustrously that Jayden could see every crater, every rock, every dimple.
There was an exuberant cry before a shadow of a small-boned dragon with scythe wings zoomed upwards and obstructed her view of the dazzling painting. Its gleam bounced off the creature's fur like light against a polished mirror, illuminating its emerald body into a picturesque charm. When he grinned down at her, she easily returned it in full and effortlessly twirled in the air.
A breeze swept through her, blowing her hair and clothes askew, but she paid it no mind. She thought she'd be cold, but all she could feel was the beating of her hearts and the buzzing of gravity influencing her every cell. Sighing, she stretched out, absorbing every bit of joyous adrenaline that came with the high altitude.
Theo flapped his dainty wings and dashed forward. Turning his wings against the wind, he allowed it to guide him wherever it wished. His head twisted to her in a playful challenge. She laughed and chased after him; giving herself a boost, she swiftly caught up to him and they whirled and twisted around each other as though in an extravagant dance.
The dance ended when the sun overtook the moon and the stars slowly faded away, twinkling a last goodbye. As the sunlight shimmered along the green meadows beneath, it began to... beep?
High-pitched. She tried to block her ears, but the sound ignored her efforts and reached them, anyway. It was a cycle of four short beeps, then silence before looping back around. She hated it and looked over to Theo to see if he thought the same, but he was no longer there. She blinked, and neither was she.
"She's doing it again! She's walking!" a small voice exclaimed through the dark. "Just a few more steps! Father, look! Look!"
A warm chuckle was followed by a gruff voice. "It had to be you, Lotek. Out of all of us, I think she's chosen her favourite."
"You really think so?"
"Oh yes, wait for your mother to hear about this. She will be incredibly jealous."
"Well, I believe that's her own fault," the younger huffed, the joyful pride fading a little.
"Lotek," the man scolded. "I've warned you, you know she's busy at-"
"At what? A position that belongs to the Zets? She should be here! I know you've been thinking of it. She's hardly fit to walk. They could take advantage of her!"
"Do not bring the Zets into this! She is doing what is needed of her. "
"More so than her own children? The very future of this family?"
"Do not be so naïve, she is doing it for that very reason!"
"For a myth that has not, nor ever will ever come true!" he broke out. "Where we're born is where we fall. It's not just words-"
