Darkness all around no light to be seen
except by the dim glow of the lamp that climbed up the trees.
The bare naked sad looking wilted trees
that, years ago, shed the last of their leaves.

The forgotten memories of happiness now brown and rotting away
laid on the ground to be buried and hidden until one day
when they're uncovered, picked up and stirred by the wind
as an Impossible place that once existed but could never again.

Despite the arduous nature of this place that I'm in,
I take comfort in knowing I can hide it, keep it Buried within,
Because planting these trees in the world for all to see
would uncomfortably uncover the insecurities i hold inside of me.
So, I go about my day normally like nothing is wrong,
But this disease has been secretly devouring the trees all along.

But when the last tree stood and I was sure all hope was lost,
I just looked up from the ground, took a deep breath and re-weighed the cost.
The cost of giving up was way more than I cared to pay.
This realization was a hard truth, but everything would be okay.

I lifted up the lamp and looked beyond the last standing tree
and to my amazement a green forest stretched out as far as I could see.
I realized that I wasn't lost I just refused to believe,
that there was light beyond the darkness I just had to look up to see.

There's still exists dead trees in the forest I know,
but sometimes old things die so new things can grow.
