~~ When the sun goes down, do not cry because the tears will not let you see the stars~~ Goro wa Kamau.
I woke up in a hospital bed with a drip of water on my hands. From what I observed around, this was an extremely expensive hospital.
Who in their right senses brought me here? Finally you're awake. Thank God.
What are doing here Sofia?
Come on Corra, I actually don't believe you were sick and didn't care to inform us.
Sick... am not sick.
You body temperature was high and your pulse rate too was not normal. I thought it was something serious but the doctor said it is Malaria.
Malaria? Stop this shit Sophie, I am not sick.
Hey, don't give me that look. I am an accountant not a doctor.
I don't understand how skipping breakfast and running all the way from home and to the fifth floor using the stairs would actually make someone sick. You don't need to be a doctor to know... common sense will tell you it's fatigue. Or maybe that doctor is quack.
Ooh, hello. This is The Agha Khan hospital. The best there's in the country girl. Besides if it was fatigue, how do you explain being unconscious for over six hours?
Knowing this argument would not lead anywhere I chose to keep quite and allow things to take their flow, after all I had escaped the boss' wrath. Atleast I now had an excuse for my lateness.
Suddenly, the same boss entered the room and informed us that he was leaving. Adding one plus one, I concluded that he was the one who brought me here. I then remembered I had fainted right in his presence and this also explained me being admitted in this expensive hospital.Since my case wasn't that serious, I was discharged later in the evening. Sofia informed me that I had been given an off by the company and that I was to report to work on Thursday.
I was grateful for this because it meant I would get a chance to rearrange myself and the plans I had in regards to achieving the bet. This time round I made sure there were no rooms for mistakes.
Steve's POV
Thursday was going to be a busy day since I didn't do anything yesterday. Arriving at the office I was perplexed to find every corner of the office spotlessly clean. It was barely 6.30 in the morning yet everywhere was sparkling. I could have sworn that it was cleaned yesterday evening if not for the fresh smell of the detergent and the slightly wet floors.
So she is an early riser too huh!Anyway, I couldn't figure out how long I had buried myself at work when I heard a knock at the door. It was Grace asking if I wished to order something for lunch. I gave her my order and also asked her to inform Corra to report to my office after lunch.
"Sir, Miss. Corra not around."
"Where did she go?"
"Am not quite sure Sir. Besides, her work schedule allow her to go out at this time. She is only entitled to clean until 12.00 noon."
Who the hell told her that? Who authorized that?
So incase my office becomes dirty by any chance I'll have to wait until tomorrow morning?"Sir, that has always been the schedule for all the cleaners over the past years. But I could call her here immediately."
"Go ahead, because I need to speak to her."
It kind of made sense though. I mean what would a cleaner be doing at the office until evening? Nonetheless, I needed to talk to her so she just had to come. After all I am the boss.
I busied myself as I waited for a response from Grace. There was a knock at the door and before I could answer, she was already inside. Great.
"I don't remember telling you to come in." I spoke looking straight into her eyes. She avoided eye contact with me and I couldn't swear I heard her mumble something.
"You sent for me sir."
I expected an apology but from the look of things, she barely gave a damn about it.I don't know what policy this company formulated, but what I know is that you have to be present at work until six in the evening.. cleaner or no cleaner.
Until six? Doing what exactly?
"Don't you get paid?"
"I get paid to work, not to sit around waiting for those working in the offices to finish their work so we can both go home together."
And I signed a contract on the same. So it's either you or the one who created the policy that's confused.Folks, let me tell you, for the very first time I became speechless and that too in the presence of a woman. I tried forming a response but my mouth couldn't utter a word. I kept opening and closing my mouth but found no suitable words to tell her.
After staying silent for sometime, the only word that I managed to voice was.."Okay"
I needed no prophet to tell me she was a hard nut to crack. I felt she was going to be a pain in the ass in the near future.
"Future"
I stole a glance at her and whether I liked it or not, she was gorgeous. To tell you the truth, it would take a miracle for Sharlette to look this simple and beautiful. No make up, no expensive clothes, just a plain simple girl wearing normal mtumba clothes yet she looked breathtaking.
That got me thinking of what the word "beauty" meant."What is beauty anyway? Is there a measure of beauty? Is it a good figure? Or a brown face? Or should we just say beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder?"
"But I'll ask again what is beauty?"
Anyway, forget about the mystery but if possessing a good figure and a pretty face are the definitions of beauty then Corra is beautiful.
And if you think beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder then I can confidently claim she is gorgeous.
And if you think beauty lies in ones character like how my mother thinks then why not join me and let's see if she is beautiful all round. But come to think of it, is beauty measured based on what one has on the inside or what one has on the outside?
