Part 22 --- End of the nightmare

Several weeks had passed without any communication from Sharlette. I never forced her to end our marriage neither did I ask anything from her. All her efforts to try reaching me bore no fruits. I made sure I avoided her like a plague. She even tried sending Tunu to get information from me but I was not going to be fooled these time around. I spent time between work and trying to find Corra.

However on this fateful day, I was finalizing a project that both Dave and I were working on when Sharlette forced herself into the office. She caused such a scene that I had no choice but to accept talking to her. I however wanted to be on the safe side, so I called Mom and Dave to be my witnesses. I was not going to risk having a talk with Sharlette alone, not even in an open space. Everyone knew she was my wife so she could easily do something to me in the public without being suspected.

We had settled at Mom's house and everyone was eager to listen to what Sharlette had to say.

" I am in deep trouble and was kindly asking you to help me."

Everyone was surprised at her sudden change in attitude. She even used the word kindly in her statement.

" I am in deep shit and the police are already looking for me. Please I need your help."

" Why are the police looking for you? And what type of help do you need from me?"

"I need you to lend me a sum of five million, I promise to return it once everything is settled."

Before I could inquire further Benjamin informed us that the police we already at the gate and were looking for Sharlette. I went outside to confirm what was happening and after their explanations I decided to let them in. They said Sharlette has been accused of very serious crimes and they had to take her in for questioning. However we had barely reached the sitting room before we had commotions at the gate. She was trying to escape from the police and that got me thinking of the crime she had committed that she was so hell bent on escaping.

I thought of leaving her to sort her issues alone but out of pity I decided to visit the station and see how I could help her. I arrived at the station the next day in company of Dave and to my surprise Sharlette accused me of betraying her. She claimed that I was the one who informed the police of her whereabouts. I wondered how I informed the police when I was not aware of what was happening. It was at this point that Dave decided to break the news.

" Bro, your wife has for a longtime been involved in drugs. Actually I just found out the information and was planning to tell everyone at the gathering but the police arrived. For sometimes now Sharlette and that other girl...what's her name again...Tunu, have been selling hard drugs and that's the source of her expensive lifestyle."

" What the.. Dave why didn't you tell me?"

"Just told you I found out yesterday though I didn't have all the information."

"Drugs? Wow.. this is unbelievable."

Before I could speak any further, the girls arrived. It was then that they confirmed that Tunu had also been arrested. They were both partners in crime. We were both allowed to have a talk with them before they could be locked up.

"Ooh.. Tunu, I thought your betrayals would end with us but you still went ahead to betray your new friend."

"What are you talking about Moraa."

"Cyrus is my friend and he told me everything. I mean how else would we have known that you were arrested? Sharlette, the person behind your blackmail for money in these past few weeks has been none other than your friend Tunu. Apparently she had pictures of all your dealings and she teamed up with the other guy you worked for. Infact all the evidence the police have against you have been found at her house and when she was arrested she also gave you out."

What a friend.

At this point there was no way I could help Sharlette. There was more than enough evidence to incriminate both of them. All I wanted was to get a divorce from her and be free from all of these. Once in prison she had no choice than to sign the papers and after a long time I heaved a sigh of relief. I was finally free from these nightmare called a marriage.

I however attended all the court hearings and even helped in finding her a lawyer but all these were useless since a crime involving drugs was a very punishable offence. After several hearing both Sharlette and Tunu were sentenced to life imprisonment with no room for appealing. Although I felt bad for her there was nothing to be done. As young as she was all her future, dreams and aspirations had been put in one basket and left in the lake to drown. Her greed for easy money has burned her life into ashes. However life had to move on.

Present day...

Corra's POV

After coming back, I did not have problems settling down as Sharon took care of everything. I however felt bad that I had hidden my son from her, she deserved to know, atleast as my best friend. I had not met Sofia and Moraa and never had news about Tunu. I needed to reopen my business but that had to take time and therefore Sharon suggested I partner with Dave since he was also into the hotel business and then once I gain the momentum I would open my own.

After weeks of meeting and discussing all the deals we reached and agreement and therefore I had to sign the contract. However the big problem was that I had to sign the contract after meeting all his shareholders. Steve and his mom were among the few people I had to meet. After my return, I had seen him but only from a far and for the first time in years I was finally going to see him face to face. That was however not my bigger problem..

" Why Saturday? Can't we meet on Monday Dave?"

"That's the only day everyone is free. It's a convenient day for everyone. Or do you prefer on Sunday?"

" I don't prefer any day of the weekends."

" And why is that? Do you work on a weekend?"

How do I tell Dave that the nanny who stays with Marcus doesn't report on weekends. How do I tell him that weekends are for me to take care of my son. I would have taken him to a daycare but he totally refused. The first time I took him there he  grabbed my clothes and refused to let go and I had no choice than to go back with him. He instead preferred to go to a normal school and since schools were already closed I had to find a nanny to stay with him when I was out for business.

At this point I wished I had told Sharon the truth, that way she would have helped me babysit Marcus for a while. Hold on Sharon is among the shareholders I was going to meet so that was not possible. What of Moraa?

" Corra, what are you thinking of that has completely stolen your attention? If you are not comfortable with the weekend then I will speak with them and we can reschedule to a perfect time."

"No, we'll meet on Saturday. I am okay with that."

I tried calling the nanny to plead with her to make an exception on Saturday but she never picked up. The only option I had left was to go with Marcus to work. Look at how fate was playing games with me. I had hidden Marcus from everyone including Sharon and now I had to carry him to work. I even went as far as hidding where I stayed. At this point all I prayed for was a miracle.
