Steve's POV

Corra, Corra... Beautiful name for a beautiful girl. It has been several weeks since she started working at our house and let me confess, there hasn't been a single day that I missed going home to eat. You see I keep on wondering how come one person could be so gifted in many ways. She is just too good to be true..

Did I tell you about her cooking? I have never missed eating at home even for a single day. Corra's cooking skills was way beyond human understanding. Her hands performed magic anytime she decided to prepare something edible.
Her Chapatis were soft and eye-catching, her ugali, chicken and even the most bitter of all vegetables miraculously became tasty when cooked by her.

Steve, am still waiting for the damn answer? Just tell me if you have found yourself another bitch.

It was a text from Sharlette. Another bitch? Which means she knows she is a bitch. Anyways the only thing I would tell her is that if I found someone then definitely she won't be a bitch like her. She would be someone way much better than her. Someone like Corra or perhaps Corra. Someone worth keeping, one worth risking for, someone worth sharing my life with.

I however brushed those thoughts away, pressed mark as read on the text and drove in. It was almost dinner time and I also had some few office tasks to finish. Their was no one in the house and I figured mom would be at her favorite spot. Passing through the back door I made my way towards the garden.

"I knew I would find you here. Good evening mom."

"Good evening my son. You know how it gets hot in the house in the afternoon so I came here for some fresh air and ended spending more time than I anticipated. Anyways how was your day and how is work?"

My day was perfect and work is fine.

"That's great, ooh, if you don't mind you can join me for a glass of juice or maybe get yourself something else in the fridge."

"No mum am fine, and where is everyone?"

"Corra went to the market for some shopping, you know tomorrow is my friends birthday party and Benjamin escorted her in order to help in some cases."

Benjamin escorted her? Just thinking about these literally made my insides boil. I have always been the one taking her to the market despite our everyday arguments.
Just being besides her watching her bargain and negotiate for the prices. Observing how lovely she samples the vegetables and choose the best fruits. I was always the ever obedient bodyguard and chauffeur. Infact everyone in the market thought we were a couple and deep down these sounded so good. I felt like punching something at the thought of Benjamin being the one doing all of these today.

Not so long after I decided to work to keep myself occupied, I heard them drive in. I peeked through the window and saw them walking towards the house so close to each other. Her laughter made my shift my attention to her. Her bellyful of open and cascading laughter always tormented my imagination. I hated the fact that I wasn't the one who made her laugh. Matter of fact she never laughs at my presence, it's either we are arguing, throwing insults or just giving each other the silent treatment. I have never seen her sweet side, always showing me her worst side. Anyways you know how they say it, there is always a thin line between love and hate, between good and bad.

You will have to invite you girlfriend to the party. She won't keep avoiding me forever.

Mum insisted after we finished dinner. However what she didn't know was that Sharlette was not avoiding her rather it was me avoiding her. Since mum had invited Corra, I had no choice than to invite Sharlette.

"Anyways, I wanted to ask you drop Corra at home. It's quite late and I can't trust these taxi or bodaboda guys. And am not pleading, I insist."

"Ofcourse." Mum thought he was forcing me yet to me this was a blessing. I would trade anything just to take Corra anywhere she wanted to be.
We bid mum goodbye and left. I was almost close to her neighborhood when she asked me to stop near some of the shops. She told me she wanted to see a friend and have a cup of tea before going home. Since I promised I would make sure she reached home safe I opted to wait for her then drop her home.

Karibia kikombe Cha chai.

Roughly translated to;  Welcome for a cup of tea.

I decided to taste the tea and confirm what was special about it. As we took the tea we talked and let me confess, today was the day among the few that we had a normal conversation without a fight. I was curious as to why she stopped to take tea when she could make better tea for herself.

"Why couldn't you just take tea ya home? You can make better tea than these, so why the trouble?"

"People don't eat in hotels because they can't cook. We don't hire drivers or chauffeurs because we can't drive. Imagine if everyone decided to do things by themselves, how many people in the country would be unemployed? How many will go home with nothing to put on the table because you decided to do things yourself. Besides she is my friend and these is my way of supporting a friend's hustle. And like how they say it, A person is only a person through other persons.

"You are always full of surprises."

I couldn't say anything more than that. And as much as I hate to admit it, I was falling in love with her. I wasn't just falling, I was deeply and madly in Love with her. Her character, her personality, her skills, her thoughts, her bravery and everything about her just attracted me to her.

I was no longer confused, everything was clear. I wanted her besides me forever. I however needed to call Sharlette for the party tommorow.

"It's just a birthday party. Her 60th birthday for that matter. It's only going to be full of old men and women so you don't need to dress to impress anybody. "

"Come on beb, these is the first time you are introducing me to your world, I definitely have to look great."

"Whatever Sharlette, I'll pick you up at exactly 9.00. "

I finished the conversation and didn't wait for more of her complains. All that matters to me was that Corra was going to be there and with this in mind I drifted to sleep with a fat smile on my face.
