______________
This time, as everyone stepped out of the house, it felt different. It didn't feel as though they were being watched around every corner. It didn't feel as though they could die soon, only to be resurrected and killed again later. It felt as though a pressure had been lifted from their backs, and that they were free. Finally, truly free.
It was time to live their lives.
Free.
______________
One month later...
It was a chilly day outside, and the sky was dull and grey with a few clouds here and there.
A child runs out of a bedroom of their own, hurriedly pulling on a zip-up jacket. In the kitchen of their new house, they tackle their older brother playfully, greeting their caretakers with a grin.
The taller of the two adults walks to the front door, slipping on his shoes. The shorter one hands each of the two children a lunch box before he goes to prepare himself for his job interview that day.
The children are called by their names, and quickly follow the taller out the door after tying their shoes and grabbing their backpacks.
Walking down the street, the trio greet a few familiar faces from a few houses nearby on their walk.
A woman with black hair and colorful dyed bangs happily waves to the group walking by her front garden, which contains flowers that are all the colors of the rainbow and many more.
A man with a blue trench coat, who was walking by them down the street, stopped to hi-five the children and courteously nod to the red-haired adult with them.
A spectacled man with a multi-colored vest grinned and waved from the little computer shop he was running out of his own home.
The three eventually passed another familiar face along their way, who waved with a small smile on his face before continuing on his way, his small cape-like coat flowing behind him in the morning wind.
The trio eventually made their way to a brick building with bright blue doors. After saying their goodbyes to their father-figure, the two children make their way into the building together.
For one of those children, he is finally free from pain and torment, and can now live a happy life with those he cares about.
For the other, they are finally truly loved, and can now live a happy life with those they care about.
For the both of them, and for their family and friends, a new chapter of their lives begins.
