Aira Ryūzaki POV
"Hey, Aira!" Miya called out, so I turned around to meet up with a very exciting-looking Miya.
"Yes?" I ask.
"Momoi was telling me about your first-ever match with Touou! She told me to find you so I can you know, get more information from the source," She smiled, but I just froze on the spot. My first-ever match? No way! I am not going to revisit that horrible memory.
"Urm... you know I got to go! The homeroom teacher said he wanted to see me!" I dashed out of there.
And there's after school...
"Come on, Aira, pleaseeee!
"Why do you want to know?" I ask.
"Because, you know, you can give me some experience! I just got into a team outside of school! Well, it is more like a friendly team, but still, pleaseee!" Miya explains.
I let out a sigh and said, "Fine if I do will you leave me alone?"
"Oh yes!"
"But only that," I stated, and she frantically nodded.
Back to the first match
"We are having a practice match this early?!" I exclaimed.
"Yeah duh, because the coach says that it's better for it to be early so you can get used to playing with a team full of boys," Aomine replied.
"I believe you will do just fine," Akashi said.
"I mean, okay, I can do it, but the judgments that I will receive, I still can't get used to it. For here it's already bad enough," I stated.
"You will be fine! Come on, lighten up!" Aomine pats my back.
Honestly, I feel I will make a fool out of myself during the match.
"Oh, they are here!" My whole body tensed up as I heard that.
"Come on! Let's warm up," Aomine grabbed me by the shoulders from behind and pushed me towards the court.
All I can say is that the moment I was on the court, I could hear people from the other school start to say some stuff.
"Is that a girl?"
"What is she doing warming up with the rest?"
"Don't tell me she's playing,"Stuff like that can really bring down your mood.
"Just ignore them, they will understand once you show them your skills," Aomine whispered in my ear. All I did was gave a smile to him and continue warming up.
After warming up, the coach was giving us advice on who to block and what plays we should play while I just sat there thinking about what people would say about me. None of the things that the coach said went through my head.
"Okay, let's go!" Aomine cheered. Everyone started to go on court and I realised there were only 4.
"Ryu! What are you just doing just standing there? Come on, you're one of the starting 5," Satsuki said to me.
"Huh huh?!" I exclaimed, "Oh no no no, I am not ready! Tell the coach to put someone else in."
"I am not gonna do that so go on already!" She pushed me onto the court and man, everyone's eyes are on me, again.
I just quickly got into position and ignore everything.
"Tip-off!" I heard someone yell and quickly scan the court to see where the ball was. Of course, we got the ball first so I ran to attack. I have no idea where the ball came from but it was literally flying to me. Thank god I caught it but as I was trying to dribble, the ball was snatched from my eyes.
"Eh?!" Because of that, the other school scored first.
"Ha! This is what you get for putting a girl inside your team!" I heard someone from the other school yell.
"Huh?! You have no idea what she's capable of!" I heard Aomine yell back.
Honestly, all the comments from them are affecting my concentration, and my mental state right now isn't that good either. I never thought I would be able to join a full boys' basketball team. I mean, being a girl in an all-boys team? Of course, there would be negative comments.
For the whole of the first quarter, I kept missing my shots, getting intercepted, and even tripping on my own two feet but we weren't losing so at least that's one good thing.
"Aira," Coach Kozo said and my whole body tensed up.
"Hai?" I replied.
"You need to clear your head, that way you would be able to play," He said and walked off.
"What happened?" Aomine came to me.
"I...I don't know. I just can't seem to clear my head," I replied.
"Come on! You're the second ace of this team!"
"Am I really? Most people don't think so,"
Aomine paused for a second before saying, "Look, I know joining this team has been hard on you mentally but I am always here for you. I will always be behind you, always be passing you the ball because both of us are unstoppable." My eyes went wide but what he said actually really felt good.
"Plus, you won't be alone on the court, you have the rest of us that respects you," He added.
"That's right," Akashi said.
"Humph, you really need to stop overthinking," Midorima said in a bored tone.
"Like I can let Airacchin be alone," Murasakibara passed me a sweet.
"You are part of this team now whether you like it or not," Nijimura senpai, the captain of the team said.
Before I could say anything else, the whistle was blown and the second quarter is starting.
"Come on, and remember, all the balls are going to you so show them what you got!" Aomine put out his fist for a fist bump and of course, I fist bump him.
Maybe because of what Aomine said to me, I gained a lot more confidence than usual. I got into my position and waited for the match to start. We got the ball first so as the ball was passed to Akashi, I ran forward, ready to attack. All I know now is the ball was in Aomine's hands, one eye contact and I knew what he was saying. I quickly ran past the defender and as I was right under the net, the ball came flying to my hands. The movement was very fast so the defenders didn't have time to react before I shot the ball into the net.
"HUH?!" One of the defenders exclaimed.
"As I said, just show your skills," Aomine said and we fist-bumped.
End of flashback
"Woah you're so cool!" Miya exclaimed making everyone in the classroom look our way.
"It's whatever, now if you heard it, could you finally leave me alone?" I said.
"Of course! A deal is a deal," With that said, she was gone.
"Always will be behind me and always be passing me the ball huh?" I mumbled to myself.
