LO'AK WAS FEEING A MIX OF EMOTIONS....
some were good, like relief and hope, cause now, he had a chance with ne'zula. the others were anger, confusion, because he didn't want the girl he so desperately liked, hell, maybe even loved, to get hurt. he was angry at tey'lar, but first....
him and ka'ila gotta confirm it.
"lo'ak, it was dark, like really late yesterday, like after you came back, so i must've not seen properly who it was." ka'ila said as she put a hand on his shoulder.
"why're you defending him??" lo'ak question.
ka'ila rolled her eyes, threw her head back and groaned. "you dumbass, i said id help you get with her, not make her hate you for life." she said poking a finger in his chest. "look monkey boy, if we're wrong with this, there might be consequences."
lo'ak looked at her with realization, once again.
"you really do not think, do you?" ka'ila said, and in response, lo'ak rolled his eyes.
"we gotta come up with a plan." lo'ak said, breaking the silence.
ka'ila nodded. "but, how about later today, i gotta run some errands."
"alright." lo'ak said.
"where ya headed?" she inquired.
"my parents' māori. family meeting." he replied.
"want me to walk you there?" ka'ila said. "i'm heading the same way."
"sure, why not." lo'ak said.
the two walked to the māori. it was a medium length walk, because the two were quite far. during the whole walk, lo'ak kept bombarding ka'ila with his stupid plans.
"oh! oh! i got another one!" lo'ak exclaimed.
ka'ila rolled her eyes. "what now??"
"we could hire tuk to innocently spy on tey'lar and he wouldn't suspect a thing."
she rolled her eyes once again and sighed deeply. "why'd i ask to walk you home, monkey boy?" she said sarcastically.
"fine!" lo'ak said as he crossed his arms, in attempt to throw a tantrum.
the two reached the māori, and ka'ila was about to leave. she turned around, and looked at him.
"don't be harsh on ne'zula." she said.
"wait." lo'ak replied. "do you wanna meet my siblings, i don't think my parents are here yet."
"i guess." ka'ila shrugged and walked in with lo'ak.
neteyam was closest to the entrance, so lo'ak introduced him first.
"this is my older brother, neteyam."
"ohh, are you lo'ak's girlfriend??" he asked loudly, knowing he was embarrassing lo'ak on purpose. ka'ila snickered and threw her head back in laughter.
"neteya—"
ne'zula was conversing with kiri across the māori while they were weaving some baskets, but she still heard neteyams statement.
"what??" ne'zula said in sync with kiri.
as ka'ila got done with her fit of laughter, she said sarcastically. "as if!! monkey boy here isn't exactly my type." she rolled her eyes. "we're just friends."
"yes! thank you!" lo'ak said.
though ka'ila was telling the truth, ne'zula didn't seem to believe it, and an overwhelming feeling of jealousy came over her. she went quiet and started fidgeting with her fingers, and digging her nails into them. she then grabbed her basket and started weaving it. though, ne'zula was excellent at the job, in that moment she kept messing up. kiri even heard her say to her basket 'you little fucker stop making me mess up, i'll fucking step on you'.
"anyways" lo'ak said as he put a hand on ka'ilas shoulder. he didn't notice, but that made ne'zula's jealousy grow. lo'ak pointed towards kiri. "that is my sister, kiri. she's my age." he said.
"hi." kiri said not interestedly while still looking at her basket. she raised her head to look at ka'ila, and the two immediately caught eyes.
"hey" ka'ila said while waving her hand slightly , clearly flustered. lo'ak raised an eyebrow at this, since he had never witnessed the tone ka'ila was speaking in. it was almost..... free of sarcasm.
kiri smiled at ka'ila, then immediately looked back at her basket, still smiling. ne'zula had never seen kiri act like this, and she knew something was up.
lo'ak pointed at ne'zula. "and this is ne'zula, you've already met her."
ka'ila was still looking at kiri, but immediately snapped out of it when lo'ak started speaking.
"oh yeah— hi again." she smiled.
ne'zula smiled back and then went back to her basket.
ka'ila turned to lo'ak. "i should get going now, see you, monkey boy." she smiled.
"bye." lo'ak replied, then sat next to ne'zula.
'monkey boy??!?! is she his girlfriend or something. something is going on between the to of them' ne'zula thought. she kept messing up her basket, and groaned in frustration. she threw the basket onto the floor. she was about to step on it, but lo'ak quickly picked it up. he noticed her odd behavior, but didn't know the reason.
"zula, you okay??" he asked. he got a hum and a nod response.
"are you sure?" he asked again, wanting reassurance.
"ohhh! so now you're talking to me??" she snapped.
lo'ak looked at her and then looked down.
neteyam and kiri were both sharing concerned looks, but chose to stay quiet._____________________________________
