The day before the ball each member of the mystic falls gang got a call from Damon to come to the boarding house. After the message yesterday both brothers had refused to say anything more about Angel. They told them they will have to wait and see when until they met her.
As they all arrived expecting to have to discuss about another threat, they were surprised to see a pile of gift bags on one table and a pile of boxes with bows on the other.

They all stared at the tables in confusion.Stefan and Damon entered the room and chuckled at the sight of their confused faces.
"I came downstairs this morning all this laying here along with a little note." Damon explains, waving his hand in the direction of the tables.
"Here take a look." Stefan tells them passing the envelope with the note in to Alaric.

"I'm sorry, did she just say being in a war was an unfortunate circumstance?" Elena asks in disbelief. Damon nods in amusement.
Stefan shrugs and says, "She has been fighting for her life, most of her life. It's normal to her by now, this was just on a bigger scale."
The room goes a little somber but they could understand her point of view slightly, given how their past year has been.
Damon also comments, "She also has a dark sense of humour, so she was probably joking around."
That earns some nods of understanding and Alaric continues reading.
