The choices we make (Brett x Reagan story)

Past mistakes

"Brett.. I'm sorry.." Reagan says as she cries. "I didn't mean to push you away.." she sobbed harder as she thought about everything she had done. "Reagan please don't cry.." Brett gently wrapped his arms around her. He felt tears start falling down his cheeks.

"I'm so sorry I left you alone. None of this was your fault. You just needed help and I wasn't there for you when you needed me the most. I'm the one who should be sorry. I love you, Reagan." Brett said as he ran his hands through her hair trying to calm her down.

"No Brett don't blame yourself. I had problems and didn't get help. That wasn't your responsibility. It was mine. And I didn't know how to get help, I still don't. That's why I left. And here I am now. A drug addict with barely any money. How pathetic is that?" Reagan laughed at how pathetic her life is. She tried to leave so that she couldn't hurt the ones she loved and she still managed to make Brett feel like this was his fault.

"Reagan even if this was your fault it's okay. We're here now right? That's all that matters to me. We can work on getting better together now. You don't have to be alone because now I'm here! We can't change the past but we can work to make things better for the future." Brett said as he sweetly smiled at Reagan. "O-okay." She smiled and nodded.

"Brett.. one more thing. I know we were dating before all this but for now, I think we should just stay friends. I need to fix things and then I'll think about dating again." Reagan said sadly. She still loves Brett the way she did back when they worked at cognito but she didn't want to hurt him again.

"Okay." Brett said with a smile understanding Reagan still needed some time but it didn't make him less sad. He wanted to have that relationship with Reagan but he knew she still needed time to get better.

Reagan checked the time on her phone. It was already 11:43 pm. She really didn't want to be alone tonight. "Hey, Brett?" She asked looking up at him. "Yes?" He asked calmly. "C-can you stay with me tonight? P-please? I don't want to be alone.." she said as she wiped her tears away. "Of course, I'll stay with you! I'll do whatever you need." Brett replied with a smile. Reagan smiled back and hugged him. "Thank you, Brett." Reagan said as she pulled away from the hug and sat on the couch as Brett did the same.

"Do you wanna watch a movie with me?" Reagan asked holding up the tv remote. "Sure!" Brett said smiling brightly. Reagan turned on the tv and scrolled through streaming apps trying to find something to watch. "What do you want to watch?" She asked Brett while handing him the remote. "Oh uh.. maybe this movie!" He said as he clicked on a random movie. "Hm okay." Reagan smiled and the movie started.

It wasn't long before Reagan fell asleep. Her head was on Brett's shoulder with one of her arms around one of his. He blushed and smiled as he looked at her. It hurt him knowing this couldn't be a regular thing between them but he knew it was for the better. Brett soon fell asleep as well and without either of them realizing it they were cuddling.

Hours passed and Reagan heard her alarm for work go off as she fluttered her eyes open. She quickly realized she was laying on Brett's chest and she immediately got up embarrassed. Brett woke up and saw her looking at him. "I-is something wrong?" He asked worriedly while rubbing his eyes. "O-oh uh no!" Reagan said as she looked away quickly. "Oh okay." Brett said as he smiled.

"Well, I have to get to work." Reagan said with a sigh. "Oh right! I don't have work today so I can drive you if you want!" Brett said while standing up. "Okay." Reagan said as she felt her face heat up. "Pull yourself together reagan!!" She yelled at herself mentally. "Anyways I'm gonna go get dressed." Reagan said as she walked to her room and Brett nodded.

She finished getting ready and They walked to her car and got in. As Brett started the car reagan turned on the radio. She switched through the channels until a podcast came on and a familiar voice started talking but Reagan couldn't quite figure out whose voice it was.
