Nancy places her textbook in the middle of us, on the table. She turns back to zip up her bag and I begin to flip through the pages. Her head turns in the other direction, looking at Matteo and Logan. (her other friend) They actually looked like they were having fun, laughing.
As she was distracted I used my dark blue dull pencil and wrote notes, based on the text.
"Um, So I was wondering after school if you could come to my place. We can get more-" I built up the confidence to ask.
"Sorry, I wasn't listening. What were you saying?" She cut me off mid sentence, I just felt awkward at this point.
"If you're free after school you could come to my house and we could get more studying done." I quickly said, repeating myself. "Yeah sure, sounds cool. Uh here, can you write your address on my hand?" She handed me her pen and put her hand on the table. She started laughing a little and I did too, before writing it on her.
Throughout the rest of the block it was actually really great, we got the work done and it was a lot less awkward then I thought. When I see her in the cafeteria, or lock arm with Mia it seemed like she'd be a totally different person. One that would stare you down if you wore something weird. Honestly, she's chill, even complimenting my jewelry once or twice.
The bell rings while we're mid laugh, and she starts to pack up her stuff. Way faster than me. "You know, Um,." I pause. "About the bathroom I ju-"
"Oh! Um, well I'll see you later." She says, practically running from me.
