Asterfall, May 2052

The dragon's head came off in one smooth motion of the blade, the body erupting into fire like a phoenix. The remaining black ashes swirled off in the wind and the soft smell of something burning lingered in the air.

Warren made a soft noise of disgust, wiping the blade on his jacket sleeve "Bloody dragons, never can die without making a mess." He stared down at his ruined crème colored jacket sleeve and his shirt that was now missing a few buttons, swearing under his breath "Hannah is going to kill me if I come home looking like a dirty mess again, at least this time the dragon didn't blow fire at me."

Silence was all that met him. Warren looked around, scowling a bit "One dragon shows up and you run like a coward, Theo? What happened to brothers in arms?!"

No calls met Warren back, just the soft splashes of the rain hitting the abandoned cobblestone street roads. Warren and Theo were near the border that joined the two kingdoms Asterfall and Barus, in a town that was nearly abandoned since Barus started to fall to ruin.

Lessdeth was once a country full of nature, beauty, and magic. The five kingdoms worked in perfect harmony and there was everlasting peace. . . until about five hundred years ago.

Back before the great war started, the five countries of Lessdeth were Ragor, Thesshire, Barus, Ardes, and Asterfall; they all ruled in perfect harmony as their countries expanded and became more lustrous. Back then the rulers of the five kingdoms also had magic, each one tied to their own kingdom to help them prosper.

Asterfall was the biggest of the five kingdoms, so they were the main political power. The ruler of the kingdom Ragor didn't like that Asterfall had as much power as they did, so the kingdom of Ragor started a revolt.

The revolt caused the alliance of the other three kingdoms to Asterfall, the kingdom of Ragor did not have the power to fight back in the end. Their entire kingdom was destroyed, not a single soul was alive in the kingdom besides their ruler Adriel.

His last dying breath was used to steal the magic from the other four kingdoms and use it to summon ancient dragons to plague the country of Lessdeth, the stolen magic kept the dragons tied to the other kingdoms so even in Adriel's demise, the other kingdoms will always be reminded that he was there, and he will never let them have peace. To this day, Ragor is still completely barren and abandoned.

Warren's soft footsteps echoed in the alleyway as he searched for Theo, shivering a bit as he made his way through. Everywhere he looked, there was no sign of his best friend. Warren let out a little huff as he yelled out, "Theodore Cornelius Duran, where are you? If you do not respond to me I will have to assume that you have fallen on your sword again and are unable to get up!"

A soft voice from the next alley called, "I am over here Warren, and my middle name is NOT Cornelius. And I have never fallen on my sword!"

Warren let out a sly grin as he walked over, the soft moonlight illuminating the freckles on his face, "No? I could have almost sworn that the one time that you claimed to be 'stabbed' by an assailant even though you couldn't give me a description of how it happened was just a coverup for-"

Theo hushed him with a hand over Warren's mouth, the dark tan of his skin stark against Warren's pale skin. Theo had a slight scowl on his face. "You're such an idiot, you know that? I don't know why I put up with you." The glow from the lights that lined the alleyway glinted off his glasses.

Warren's grin widened as he said "It must be my charming wit and intellect."

"Or lack thereof"
