"A summer camp..?" You read the look on your worst enemies face, winkles crisscrossing over the bridge of her nose as you tell her about all the shit you had to look forward to this summer.
Why you even had her number was a mystery but you wanted to talk to someone about it and who else would pay close attention to every word you say?
"I know" you groan, falling back into your fluffy duvet for what feels like the very last time before you set off on the worst trip imaginable. "But I 'need to do it so I can add this to my resume'" you put some emphasis on the air quotes
"That sounds like complete and utter bullshit" there wasn't much of a difference between her expression when she was talking to you normally and her expression when you were telling her sucky news, either way she was sneering at you through the screen "I'd sock my dad in the face if he told me I was going to volunteer at a fucking summer camp"
"I bet you would"
"I fucking hate you"
"Uh-huh" you hum, unconvinced
You kick your feet "I didn't even get a warning though!"—"They pretty much just said 'say goodbye to the best summer ever and say hello to sweating your tits off in a cabin filled with fat ass mosquitoes'"
Okay maybe it wasn't going to be that bad, but that's exactly how you imagined it. Humid and understaffed. And they were expecting you to help out there? In the blazing heat of summer? You'd rather die.
"Why take a job there though? Don't you already have a job?"
"I do but my boss is hella suspicious of me cause of the referrals attached to my name"
"See I told you fighting in school was gonna get yo ass blackballed"
"Nobody wants to hire a 'delinquent" you wave your hands around sarcastically "that's why that damn McDonalds joint on the end of the road keeps getting robbed, cause they don't hire people that can actually throw hands" but that was besides the point. You were gonna have to quit your whole ass job for a stupid little summer camp
"Volunteering at a camp doesn't even pay" "so how was that any better than what you got going on right now?"
"I told you already, it's supposed make my resume look all nice and shiny again" which was a load of bullshit, some lazy answer your parents whipped up to explain why you needed to do this
