"I'm sorry about your nose," Visaera told Luke at supper that night, staring at the stitches on his face. The swelling had gone down over the last few hours and she could hear him struggling to breathe through his nose. The children were eating alone in the hall and the princess wondered where her parents and grandparents were this time. It seemed that her mother was leaving them alone more often than not as of late.
"If only Aemond hadn't—"
"Oh, would you shut up about it already, cousin?" Visaera complained. All day long, Rhaena had been grumbling about Vhagar, and Visaera didn't want to hear another minute of it. During the day, it was easy enough to escape her whining, but at the table, she was forced to either listen or try to change the subject. "Don't you see? It's as Aemond said... Vhagar is a dragon; her own being, not a belonging to own. Aemond claimed her and she allowed him to. I know you were mourning your mother and needed time, but—"
"It's as he said?" Rhaena interjected with a frown, "You spoke to him?"
"Yes, I did," she replied.
"Before or after he stole my mother's dragon?" Rhaena asked, her face tightening in anger.
"Both," Visaera admitted, "But he didn't steal it."
"So, you knew that he was going to take her?" Rhaena's cheeks were turning red.
"Yes. I encouraged him to—" Rhaena lunged at her across the table, letting out a cry of fury.
"You bitch!" she cried as she hit Visaera across the face. Pain seared through her temple as she felt her stitches split open. She battled against her cousin, who had the advantage as she sat on top of her.
"Rhaena!" Jace yelled, tugging at his cousin's dress; trying to save his sister. The children's parents walked in just as Baela and Luke joined the fight; piling one on top of another.
"What on earth is going on?" Rhaenyra demanded, pulling her sons away from the girls as Daemon reached for his and Laena's children.
"Baela, Rhaena, what is the meaning of this?" Daemon finally asked, gaining hold of the girls. It took Visaera a moment to rise from the floor and dust herself off.
"It's her fault!" Rhaena shouted, fighting the tears that threatened to spill from her eyes, "Aemond stole my dragon and she told him to; it's her fault!"
"It is not! I didn't take your fucking dragon! It's your own fault for not claiming her sooner! Perhaps you're not a dragonrider, more Velaryon than Targaryen!" Visaera snapped.
"Visaera!" her mother yelled out; shock written all over her face. In truth, she was shocked by her own words and immediately regretted the statement, but it was too late to take it back. "That is enough. Apologize, now." Eyes burning, she threw a single glare at her mother and stormed from the room, refusing to apologize over a fight that Rhaena had been the one to instigate. Laenor took a moment and settled the boys back at the table as Rhaenyra rubbed her face in frustration.
