You are slicing a meat for your dinner when you felt someone's presence behind you. Your gripped on the knife you were holding tightened and before you could throw it to that person, it spoked.
"Are you busy?"
It was as if your breath halted for a mere second as soon as those words pierced into your ear. There is no need to turn around and see who is the one who owned that manly voice. You know him. Very well.
It has been almost three years since the last time you saw him.
Instead of answering him, you just continued what you were doing, pretending that his arrival did not bother you. But then in your peripheral view, you can see Sabo leaning on the kitchen counter where you are cooking. The distance between you and him was just one step away.
"Hi," he whispered.
"Hi," you simply replied, still not giving him a glance.
"Do you need a hand?" Sabo suggested, gently.
You inwardly sighed. "I can do it by myself."
Even if you are not looking at him, you can feel his gaze still fixed on you. After a few second he tried to make a conversation with you again.
"It's been a long time, huh? You've change—"
"People change," you cut him off, now finally lifting you eyes to look at directly into his. "They won't stay what they were two years ago."
"Well..." Sabo cleared his throat, unable to add another word.
He straightened his back when you put the sliced meat on the plate. You are about to grab it when Sabo did it for you.
"Let me help yo—"
"Can—!" you inhaled, grabbing the plate on his hand before glaring at him. "Can you just leave, Sabo?!"
"Y/N... Are you... are you mad?" he trailed off.
You felt a twitch on your heart. Isn't it obvious?
"Wow," you scoffed. "Sabo, are you pretending to be dumb right now? Are you really asking me that?"
Sabo tried to place his hand on you but you slap it away. Pain flashed on his eyes. "Y/n, if this is about what happened about us before I was gone, let me explain—"
"No," you shook your head. "I don't want to hear what you're going to say, Sabo. I don't want an explanation. What I want right now is space! A place where I can't see you or hear your voice! "
You and Sabo were once almost perfect for each other. Until he decided to break the promise the two of you. He choose his dreams over you. Even so, you let him go. It is his greatest dream so who are you to stop him?
But unfortunately, his dreams took him away from you. A few months later after he left the Island where you used to spend the rest of your day with him, a news arrived saying that Sabo is married to the daughter of one of the leaders of revolutionary army. It was just a rumor, though, it still hurts you.
What if it's true? What if he really married and had his own family while you are patiently waiting for him?
"No, y/n... Please. Let me explain. I'm sorry."
"Your apologies meant nothing to me anymore," you pointed the door out of the kitchen. "Leave, Sabo. At once."
"Y/N, sweetie, hear me out first."
"Don't call me that!" you screamed. "I'm tired, Sabo! I'm tired of making a fool of myself while letting myself fall for someone like you!"
"Talk, alright? Let's talk."
"Shut up. Why don't you go back to your family? To your wife."
"Family? Wife? y/n, the only family I have is Luffy and Ace," then his eyes danced with amusement. "And my wife? Here she is right now infront of me... looking so damn gorgeous."
