Akatsuki is an extremely quiet person. When he first started middle school, some people tried to get to know him, but eventually gave up. Thus, he was left alone and never spoke with a single person. The teachers never called on him, so not a single person knew what his voice sounded like. However, after a few weeks, anything related to him stopped being spread around since the interest in him died down to the point where nobody noticed or cared about him.

However, when he joined the basketball club and was promoted to the first string a few days after Kise, people could see that he was a cool dude. It was only after they got to know him that his true personality--one free of worries, all smiles, and sometimes a bit physically abusive if the situation called for it--shined through his persona.
