AFTER THE SAVIOURS have left, James and a few of the other men make arrangements to go scavenging for the evening. They leave almost immediately after the Saviours, saying that they want to get going before the sun goes down.

Before they leave, another argument brews between the two kline brothers. James does not want Devon to come with them, insisting he is in no shape to do so and needs to rest. Devon will have absolutely none of it.

"James, i have to come. I am not staying here, sitting around when I could be doing something to help."

His words are slurred as his mouth is swollen and his jaw bruised. He couldn't stand up or walk without help. James was right, he needed to rest.

Devon was brought inside and soon he fell asleep, understandably exhausted after the days events.

"Please, make yourself at home. Get something to eat from the kitchen or whatever you want. Could you do me one favour please?" James said to me before he left.

"Of course."

"Can you make sure Lily is alright and read her a book before she goes to bed, she's not able to sleep unless she gets a book read to her. And I will be gone so I can't do that for her and Devon-"

"I will read her a book before bed James, don't worry. It's the very least I can do. Thank you so much, for everything."

James and the others leave soon after.

As I make my way towards the house, I notice in one of the upstairs windows a tiny gap in the curtains, and a little face belonging to Lily Kline peering through them.

The sun has began to set and everyone has started to clean up. I gently knock three times on Lily's bedroom door.

"Lily, it's beth. Can I come in?"

The door slowly opens, just enough for a tiny face to appear. When she realises who it is, she opens the door more and let's me in.

My heart hurts for the young soul, she wears a frightened expression on her little face, presumably as a result of the days events.

"Come here." I say to her, pulling her in for a hug as an attempt to comfort her.

As I pull away, I notice tears spill down the skin of her cheeks.

"Hey." I gently say to her. "It's going to be okay, I promise you. You are safe now, the bad people are gone, and they are not coming back."
