The sound of birds chirping and a... good smell woke me up.
I found myself laying in bed like a starfish.
"Did I take up all the room?" I mumbled and stretched; bad idea as a pain shot through my lower abdomen. Looking down, I was wearing another one of Alex's shirts. Did he give me a change of clothes?
I floated out of the bedroom, mouth-watering and tummy grumbling to have a taste of that good smelling food.
When I entered the kitchen my eyes joined the excited senses, seeing Alex shirtless but wearing an apron, preparing something near the counters.
"What's that apron gonna protect?" I asked before yawning. Yes it's my plan to not make it awkward.
"The food from my hotness," he replied. I smiled knowing that last night hasn't changed how goofy and flirty we always were.
"Whatcha making?" I peeked.
"Pasta with sweet potatoes. I added mushroo- EEEEE your drool is almost on the counter!" he cringed.
I rolled my eyes at his 'not so exaggerated because it's true that I was drooling' statement and went to the table.
We were done with breakfast and I forced him to let me do the dishes after changing into something casual. I looked at the clean plate, my reflection showing on its glistening surface.
A tear rolled down as realization hit me.
What have I done?
Why did I hook up with my best friend when we didn't even break up?
"Yo did you see the remote?"
...
"Nora?"
Alex walked next to me and turned off the running water.
"Hey... are you okay?"
The words were stuck in my throat.
"What happened?" he kept his hand on my shoulder.
"We did it... that's what happened!" I wiped his hand away and back up.
"What? Why are you mad and... sad? Why are you sadmad?" he seemed genuinely confused. I don't blame him.
The guilt was knotting my stomach each passing second. All his trust in me was broken and it didn't happen yesterday. It's happened the moment I let Jeremy kiss me. Nathan doesn't deserve someone who gets caught in the moment and betrays him.
Alex grabbed my wrist the moment I grabbed my purse on the table.
"Stop running away Nora!" he looked into my eyes but I couldn't hold the contact. I freed my wrist before heading out.
I'm sitting on the comfort of my bed at home with the discomfort of my guilty heart with the question 'what do I do?' continuously pulsing in my mind.
*Ring ring*
"Hello..." I answered the phone.
"Bitch where you at? I'm coming over for that shoulder to cry on," Teesha said.
"I'm not at home. Just went for shopping," I lied. Good job Nora, do more lying to the best friend who's trying to help.
"Shopping?"
"Yea... to... destress."
*Beep beep*
The line cut off and I bit my lip.
I went to the kitchen and rummaged through the fridge in hopes to find a snack. Just then the doorbell rang.
"Who is it?" I asked and I heard a sigh from the other side.
"OPEN THE FUCK UP!"
"Teesha?!"
I quickly opened the door and she rushed in.
"Shopping to destress my ass! You don't even go shopping when we force you to," she hugged me.
I ended up spilling all my emotions and thoughts to her while we munched on snacks.
"Well... I think you should go talk to him. Tell him that you didn't think it through and you just wanted the date to go well," Teesha said as she wiped her fingers on my pants, leaving powder stains.
"Good idea," I sighed, "But I can't bring myself to face him. I cheated on such a good guy."
"To be honest... I don't like him," she looked to the side.
"Whaaaaat? Why?" All this time she kept it a secret that she didn't like my boyfriend.
"Just cuz..."
"Huh? Tell me," I bugged her arm.
"Meh..."
"Come onnn!" I kept shaking her arm.
"BECAUSE!" she pulled her arm away getting tired, "What kind of boyfriend doesn't buy a gift for his girl? And who always forgets their purse to pay?"
"Oh please... money and gifts aren't the only thing in a relationship Teesha," I roll my eyes.
"Ok... then why doesn't he even try to spend more time with you? I'm pretty sure meeting once a month for a 3 hour date isn't enough"
"You kind of sound like Alex... always trying make Nathan look like a boring nerdy dumbass," I cross my arms.
"Nora... you are misunderstanding me... and Alex. We aren't saying that he should buy you things or pay for anything unnecessary. We are saying that he should commit as much as you are. And also, I WISH that he was nerdy and boring but I honestly feel like he's just using you... I feel like there's something else going on that you don't know."
Teesha sounded concerned now.
"Like what? What are you implying?"
"I feel like he's just showing you a totally different profile than who he really is. He's living like 50 miles away and you've been to his place like once. What if he's... I dunno... cheating on you or someth-"
"The only person who isn't committed into this relationship and cheated on their partner is ME. You know he's living far away cuz of his university and so him visiting me once a month is enough. I don't want to get in between his studies, and yea maybe it's boring without him here and maybe I've wanted something more than just holding hands for once. But it's fine... really..." I took a breath after blabbering all that out.
"Believe what you want Nora. I'm just saying my gut feeling to you. How many times have you sent money to him that he hasn't returned even once. Has he ever sent photos of where he is or who he's with? The guy hasn't even ever called you first," she let out a scoff.
.....
"If you are thinking of-" she started.
I picked up my purse, "I'm going to see him."
"Homaigods..." Teesha sighed.
I went out of my house and checked my phone for his location when I heard a jingle of keys behind me. Teesha locked my house door and peaked into the phone on my hand.
"Umm... what you doing?"
"You need a ride don't you?" She waved her car keys and I smiled at that.
We may argue on one point or another but you can't separate us.
"Maybe it's about time I get my license too," I said while getting into the passenger seat of her Ford Figo.
"I'll sue the guy who gives it to you."
