"Give me five more and then we're out of here." Bron yelled from the other end of the court as Matt walked into the gym.
I tried to catch my breath as I dribbled the ball and ran full speed to the other end of the court to make a layup as if I was running a play on a fast break.
Once I was done I grabbed my salt water off the bench and chugged it down.
"Hey, we got NA in thirty minutes. Hop in the shower real quick and meet me in the parking lot." Matt says once he was done talking to Lebron.
I hopped in the shower for ten minutes then changed to meet Matt in the parking lot after saying bye and thanks to Bron. After years of playing basketball I've learned to shower really quickly.
Once I made it to the car Matt and I were on our way to my first NA meeting outside of rehab. When I first staring taking those pills I never pictured this moment, me with my sobriety coach on the way to my first narcotics anonymous meeting.
It's kind of embarrassing to be going to one of these being famous. I honestly don't know how comfortable I'm gonna be with sharing what I'm going through with these random strangers that are probably going to try to sell my stories to the blogs.
"I can see you over there all in your head over thinking. What you worrying about?" Matt asked as we pulled into the NA building.
"I just don't know if I can trust these people. I don't wanna be vulnerable and then I see my business on the shade room." I explained.
"Just give it a chance." He said then we got out the car and made it inside.
We made it into the room and I was shocked. The first face I saw was Lamar Odom. That's when I realized this NA was for people in the spotlight.
As I made it further into the room I saw Demi Lovato, Paris Hilton, Drew Barrymore and many more familiar faces throughout Hollywood.
I was most shocked to see Lamar Odom. Not only because he's also a basketball player, but because my mom told me when I was in rehab that one of her biggest fears was to see me like him and get a call in the middle of the night that I've overdosed in a brothel somewhere.
I just looked at Matt and we went over to take our seats next to Lamar.
"Hey, nice to meet you kid. Matt told me a lot about you." Lamar said as he dapped me up.
We sat and listened to a few of the people tell their stories and share where they are in their sobriety journeys. They asked if I wanted to share but I said I would wait until another meeting.
Overall, the meeting wasn't as bad as I was expecting. I feel a lot better with trusting them thought because they have nothing to gain from selling my stories to the blogs.
Hours later
"Hello?" I said as I answered the phone.
"Hi Imani, this is Masai Ujiri's office Mr. Ujiri will be on the line momentarily." A voice said.
Mr. Ujiri is the president of the Toronto Raptors. A call from him could either be really good news or really bad news."Imani. How are you?" He asks as the line reconnects.
"I've been amazing sir. Really back on track and better than ever. How are you?" I asked being courteous.
"That's great to hear young man. I've been alright, just really busy trying to figure out your place in our organization moving forward."
Once he said that, my heart rate started going crazy.
"Ok..." I said waiting for him to hit me with his decision.
"Imani, you're incredibly talented and we don't want to let you go. But you have to understand that you're going to have to give us some guarantees."
