The jolt had been violent and the blonde could see the dish previously on the knees of her girlfriend fly in slow motion in the car and hit the face of the Italian; The cannoli fly in the car; The body of Carina move as the advertising men of the car salesmen and finally feel the car to rise in order to make rolls.

/End of Flashback/

A first wave, then she was out of the water. She paddled again and dove under another wave.

Maya had emerged from the wave. The salt on her recent head and arm injuries stung. But she couldn't complain. She was fine.
She had gone under the next wave.

She was angry. She was angry at herself. Not even at that drunk driver, who had run a red light.

The waves today were very high for the season, normally they were this size in November, but the wind was quite strong today.

Without much conviction, without paying attention to her gut, she started rowing to catch the wave that was coming.

She got up too late on her board and fell forward, losing her balance, head first; she was then caught in the rolls of the series, wave after wave. Struggling to get her head out of the water between each wave crashing against the ocean, she was a puppet in the Pacific, like her father had been in the Atlantic.

She hadn't slept since the accident, she was exhausted, but she couldn't close her eyes, she kept reliving the accident.

She was still underwater, tossed around, again and again in the different waves that came crashing against the ocean, returning to their origin.

/Flashback/

The car was rolling over.

- "Carina... Carina..." Maya said in a weak voice, once the car had stopped.

She had seen the headlight of the car that had just hit them stop for a moment. One of the headlights was broken.
She had heard someone talking as if on the phone, and had seen feet walking past the car. Then she heard a door slam and saw the car speed off.

"Carina..."

Two minutes later another car had pulled up and three people had gotten out.

- "Are you okay?" Asked the first man as he bent down

- "What happened?" Asked the second man

- "a-a driver ran into us, he, he ran the, the light... My, my, my girlfriend, she, she is hearing impaired... She, she doesn't answer me... I, I can't reach her..."

A woman was with them, she was calling for help and just minutes later Pruitt Herrera from Hawaii Station 19 had arrived on the scene.

- "hello what's your name little one?"

- "Ma-Maya, how is Carina?"

The man had one of his colleagues with his fingers on the Italian's carotid artery.

- "She's unconscious" said the man lying on the floor. "We're going to get you out of here."

-"Start with her, please".

- "you don't have any pain in your chest or stomach, legs?"

- "I think my leg is stuck, but I, I don't have pain and, and my toes, they, they move"

- "okay we'll take care of your friend"

- "she, she's hard of hearing, in- just in case"

- "thank you for this valuable information"

Carina had been the first to be extricated. Maya could hear the firefighter talking. They were mentioning probably broken ribs and bruises. She didn't seem to have anything else broken, but had a head injury. The airbags had obviously cushioned the impact.
