An entire afternoon of heavy and sudden spring rain was enough to drastically reduce the number of patrons in the tavern.

Silence reigned inside the club, temporarily broken by the sound of glasses being placed on the table. Occasionally one could hear fragments of conversations from the outside or the simple bark of a dog. The few patrons in the tavern sat bending over their drinks. Sitting in solitude, they vaguely resembled cold birds perched on the branches of a tree on a winter's day.

The tavern had clearly seen better days, both economically and socially. This spectacle was enough to kill one's serotonin, you noticed.

"I didn't expect to see you here" said a low feminine voice that almost made you jolt.

You turned to face her. Despite her profession, Rosaria was far from being a sister with an orthodox spirit. Unlike the other sisters, her gaze was as sharp as a blade, able to bring anyone in their place.

"Today was my day off" you scratched the back of your neck. "Being on duty even during the festival really ducks" you sighed.

"Why not take a day off without telling Jean, then?"

You almost had a heart attack. "Gods-" you eyed the new comer. "Where the fuck did you came from?-"

"I'm also glad to see you, [Name]" grinned Kaeya. You huffed.

"Aren't you forgetting someone, Kaeya?" Rosaria playfully arced an eyebrow.

"Well hello you too" he replied with an hint of mischief in his mellifluous voice. He shifted his attention to the tavern's eerie mood "what a gloomy atmosphere..." --he seemed  to ponder for a moment-- "mind if we light it up?"

After few minutes you were regretting your life choices.

"Aw, come on why don't you join us? I promise it will be fun" Kaeya purred.

"No" you gave him a stern look "do I have to tell you in Liyuean?". The Cavalry Capitan huffed before letting out a teasing "how boring".

Someone huffed from behind the counter, hearing his words. "She isn't wrong in not wanting to be involved in your mayhem, Captain" the honorific left Diluc's lips with a note of loathing. "After all, we both know how you usually 'light' the mood" his crimson eyes fell on Kaeya.

"My, my, isn't that Master Diluc himself?" the captain ignored him. The way he delivered his words almost disguised elegantly the shade of brutal irony. You swore you saw an hint of defiance in his eyes.

You eyed Rosaria, silently begging her to stop their squabble. She, however, seemed immersed in it.

Kaeya did not reply. Instead he only sent Diluc a mocking smirk, inquisitively eyeing the bartender as if waiting for him to continue. The answer did not come, however.

At this point these two were taking turns to ignore each other. You let out a sigh as the trio's eyes fell on you. "Will you join us?" Kaeya inquired.

"You should accept" Rosaria chimed in "or he'll beg you all night". She made a brief pause, her lilac eyes falling on you "this fanfiction is already long, refusing you'll make it even longer"

Hearing that, you gave in. "I know, I know" you sighed, surrendering. Kaeya's expression was now triumphant.

"So, if you were to choose who's the most handsome man here?" Kaeya cooed with a song-like tone.

"Where the fuck did this came from?" you cringed. Not for embarrassment: for pure disgust. If you squinted however you would've been able to find an almost non-existent hint of concern for the Capitan's liver.

"Just reply already" he replied, rolling his eyes hearing your silence.

"Leave me alone" you groaned, sick of his everlasting nags.

"You promised!" he whined like a toddler, as a pout started to form on his face.

You sighed. Now not even Rosaria could help. Kaeya was probably too drunk to care about anything else, as for the nun she was probably too busy dealing with some churchgoer that wanted to drag her back to the Cathedral.

"You really want to know?" you asked, fully aware that the only men currently in the tavern were him and Diluc. Talking about the bartender, he seemed to be putting a lot of effort in ignoring that little conversation of yours.

You were met by an eager nod. Was he really asking you to choose between him and Diluc...?

"Well... it's kind of obvious..." you mumbled. At this point you could feel their eyes piercing through you. You suppressed a smirk. "My answer is..." --even Diluc was, for some reason, staring at you-- "Venti"

"The bard?"

"He isn't here" Kaeya pointed out, furrowing his brows as he looked at you. Sober as he was, it was kind of surprising that he even noticed.

You made no effort in hiding the sarcastic grin on your lips. "My, you're getting smarter"

Before he could reply at your dry tease the door was flung wide open. You sent a quick glance to the newcomer. "Oh, here he is" you grinned at Kaeya's words as no one bothered to ease the bard's confusion, ignoring his questioning looks.

The evening was called off by the time the clock had long passed midnight and the nocturnal breeze was so cold it made you shiver.

You heard Diluc say your name, stopping you before you could leave the tavern. His crimson eyes landed on you, "Stay here for a moment" he instructed.

You glanced at Venti as he hummed, stumbling over a few words. "What about him...?" you asked with concern. Gods knew how many bottles of Dandelion Wine he dawned.

Diluc let out an exhausted sigh. "He can take care of himself," he replied, walking towards the tavern entrance and closed the door behind the bard.

Now you were alone.

You gazed at him, waiting for him to say something. In the silence Diluc handed you a scroll sealed with a crimson wax, summoned from his pocket dimension. "It's the information you wanted," he reported sotto voce, yet still audible to you. "Apparently," he began, "in that domain are the subordinates of a member of the Abyss that goes by 'Duchess'"

You looked at him questioningly at the unfamiliar name. "Duchess, you say?"

He peered at you. "You should be aware of the Abyss Order's princess, right?"

You nodded. "Yes, I think a knight found out about her during Stormterror's attack". You dug into your memory, looking for the report that mentioned the princess. 'A skilful strategist who planned the attack' it said 'her identity, however, is still a mystery'.

'Her position in the Order's hierarchy is unclear to us but she shouldn't be underestimated' Diluc finished.

You looked at Diluc, hearing him say your name. He paused briefly as his lips turned into a thin line and his eyes betrayed a scintilla of concern. "That domain might be more dangerous than you think"
