“Will you save us?”
Silence enveloped the temple after those words were spoken as you felt the weight of the follower’s gazes on you, looking at you as if you were a deity. “You’re our only way to salvation, he had said that”
Once again, the temple was filled with the silence for which it had been constructed. You looked at them, already aware of the answer you didn’t dare to speak.
From the end of the corridor, beyond the heavy door that separated the temple from the underground passageway, there was a thud that was followed by another, until it resembled the sound of footsteps. Gasps filled the sacred temple “They’re here!”
The sound was getting closer and closer. "Your Grace! Your power is the only one that can save us mortals". But in their pleas, the followers were unaware that their fate had already been written.
The footsteps grew heavier, getting closer and closer. “I..” you looked at their gazes glimmering in that despair. To them you were like a light amidst the darkness, a beacon that could’ve guided them through a storm. “I'm not the person he said I was"
As soon as you spoke these words the world quickly changed. Fire engulfed the temple as mayhem broke out.
You stood still, immobile. The followers pitifully tried to flee, trying to reach the nearest way out. They screamed your name and told you to leave. You couldn't recall what happened afterwards yet you were sure that your eyes kept following that scene, even when the followers were nothing but golden dust.
The sound of footsteps was heard once more. A deep chuckle resonated through the temple, making you shiver. "Ah so you traitors are able of worship"
When you woke up you realised that the sound you've heard in your dream as an incessant sequence of footsteps were actually nothing but someone knocking at your door.
"Oi, open up!" your name was called out between knocks. "You even told me to remind you!" hearing Amber's voice you unwillingly left your dreamland.
The door creaked open. "Took you long enough, i thought that you'd be up by the time the door was down" she huffed. Amber’s ironic smile was quick to disappear as she stared at the person in front of her. “What the- Master Diluc!?” she paled.
"Ah, Amber" you spoke, as Diluc's mouth was left trying to formulate an answer. You smiled innocently at the pair of eyes awaiting your next words. "I see you've met my... ah, special guest" you said devilishly, gazing at her the same way with which the ladies tend to imply an outrageous scandal.
"I'm sorry! If I knew that you were expecting someone I wouldn't come!" she vehemently apologised.
Jumping off the balcony had never looked so tempting. However, much to your chagrin the height was so low that it would only end up hurting you. "No worries" you smiled mischievously, “I just wanted to make sure I gave him a proper goodbye”
You sent him a quick glance, as if asking him to come to your aid. For a moment you thought you saw the ghost of a smile which quickly disappeared. If your own senses had were correct, then you had no idea whether to feel honoured or horrified to see that uncharacteristic expression on Diluc.
But… couldn’t you do that earlier?” she asked in confusion.
“Oh, we might’ve spent the entire night for that” he replied without batting an eyelid.
The following moments were followed by silence. At this point, those present would be able to hear their own heartbeats. Amber flushed “Ah…I…I’m sorry! I had no idea that…” she met her gaze with yours as you looked at her coldly, silently begging the supernatural forces to make her leave. She smiled sheepishly, awkwardly scratching the back of her neck “But… uh… congratulations?”
A/n: While writing this my mind was divided in "let's made this silly" and "great heavens! what is such scurrility?"🚪🚶♀️
