Hey guys! So sorry I haven't updated, been super busy and I'm afraid this is only half the size of the chapter this was originally, but I'm working on chapter 3 and will have it posted pronto! Enjoy :3
Phil's POV

"My god Dan, quit pacing, you're making me even more nervous!" I anxiously tell him, wiping my hands on my jeans for the fifth time in the past ten minutes.

"What if they don't like us, Phil? What if we don't find anyone that will want to come with us or if we get denied at the last minute or we don't turn out to be good enough for this? HOW ARE YOU NOT PANICKING RIGHT NOW?" Dan asks fretfully, one hand hooked on the back of his neck as he continues pacing up and down the hallway. He's half dressed in a black button down shirt, smart but casual and half-tucked, rumpled and creased slightly from our utter lack of effort to iron. On his bottom half he's wearing black skinny jeans and black Converses, untied and hastily shoved on.

I take a deep breath and try to stop jittering, turning to Dan and grinning a little, I might be nervous as heck but I'm also more excited than I've ever been.

"Dan, whatever happens I'm sure it'll turn out fine, this is exciting! We're reaching a new chapter of our lives together Bear, be excited." I tell him, fixing the collar of his shirt and tucking the rest of the shirt in for him. Leaning in, I kiss him sweetly but briefly then pull my phone from my pocket, clicking the on button and reading the digits illuminating the screen. 9:40!

"Oh no, hurry, grab your stuff, we'll be late!" I cry, rushing to tie my own laces and snatching my wallet from the counter. Patting my pocket, I feel my keys behind the denim fabric and pull them out, rushing out the door with Dan in tow, slamming the door shut and fumbling with the key to lock it, struggling then finally succeeding after several tries.

Dan grins cheekily, and spins around to face the stairs.

"Race you!" he shouts as he takes off bolting, and I groan inwardly at the thought of exercise. So would Dan normally, so he must be really nervous to be taking it to this extreme. Sighing and shaking my head, I crack a smile and take off after him.

Finally reaching the bottom floor, I'm greeted with the sight of a flustered and panting Dan, but looking very pleased with himself indeed for winning the race. I don't mind, of course, seeing him look so happy is worth losing.... Just this one time, next race though he is going down!

"Did we seriously just have a race downstairs on our way to an orphanage to get a child?" I ask him, chuckling at our undeniable naivety.

"Hell yeah! And hey, just think, next time we'll have a little Howell following us and most likely beating us both!" he beams, all nervousness drained from him in excitement.

"I thought we agreed it'd be a Lester!" I argue, knowing it's beside the point.

Dan sighs dramatically.

"A. Don't call them that, they are not an it, lion. B, fine we'll call them Lester-Howell, is his majesty pleased now?"

"Very." I grin as I giggle at his sarcasm. We may be married now but we'll still talk like best friends forever, I'm glad for that.

"C'mon, Bear, we've gotta get a move on!" I tell him, pushing open the lobby door and stepping out into the frosty London air, realising quickly that I probably should've brought a jacket. Oh well, too late now.

We catch the tube across town and before we know it, we're freaking out in front of the massive wooden front doors to St Louis Xavier Orphanage. All our bravado gone, I turn to Dan in fear, nervousness swallowing me whole as I begin panicking.

"Hey, hey, what were you telling me just before we left? We're reaching a new chapter of our lives together, Lion! C'mon, let's do this." Dan reassures both me and himself as he takes my hand in his and clutches tightly. I give him a tight-lipped smile as we trudge up the massive steps together and I pluck up the courage to bang on the heavy wooden door.

Raising my fist, I realise I'm trembling a little as I swallow my fear and rap sharply on the slab of wood separating us and a huge piece of our future. We wait, and I'm about to knock again when it's pulled open by a tall, thin woman with a grouchy look on her face and deep wrinkles. She looks us up and down, narrowing her beady eyes at me.

"What the hell do you want? If it's bibles, we're not interested, if you haven't noticed this is a saint's orphanage and we have more bibles than we know what to do with, so off you go." she tells me, motioning away with a flick of her wrist.

"We- uh, we're here for-" I stammer.

"Hurry up, out with it!" she says impatiently, looking bored and frustrated with us.

"We're here about an adoption." Dan intervenes, and the woman shifts her attention to Dan, who's stepped up so he's on the same step as the woman, towering over her.

"What, you think you can just come in here off the street and pick up a kid? You've got to be kidding me." she barks, chuckling menacingly at us.

"No, actually, we've organised to come here with The Adoption Panel." Dan tells her, and she widens her eyes in realisation that we're legit.

"God... Well where's your papers then?" she demands.

"Right here." I tell her, reaching into my back pocket and retrieving the creamy papers signed by officials, unfolding them and handing them to her. She pulls a pair of spectacles down onto her nose and inspects the papers closely. Finally, she hands them back and steps out of the doorway.

"Come on in then, welcome to St Louis Xavier Orphanage." she says in a bored tone.

I glance at Dan who looks back at me, and we share a 'yikes' look as dragon lady practically stomps down a hallway with us in tow.

"Here it comes..." I tell him.

"Here what comes?" he asks.

"The rest of our lives."
