You let your gaze slip away from the many opened books on your desk, focusing it on the busy streets of New York snaking beneath the window. Night had already befallen and now the view out the window in front of you consisted of many colourful sparkles and moving glistens. Although as much as you wanted, you couldn't get yourself to completely give in to its magnificence.
It's been six months since you came abroad to New York for studies and you already felt homesick. Or was it homesickness though? Because one thing you couldn't stop thinking about was your beloved boyfriend who agreed to patiently wait until you finish your studies.
You tiredly shifted in your seat and your eyes defocused. Now even the lights seemed like a blur, surreal. The messy desk craved your attention, begging you to finish that little assignment you had left over, but you couldn't spare not even that much.
Your thoughts constantly flew across the Pacific and back home to Japan. Back to your newly bought apartment.
You regretted not spending this Christmas together with him, you regretted it so badly. Going back a year ago, you two celebrated your first Christmas together - a Christmas which felt like a dream, something right out of a romance movie or novel.
You remembered how you promised to stay by each other's side as long as your love keeps burning.But then the same summer you created your utmost masterpiece, la crème de la crème of the best Summer Festivals that Yumenosaki Academy had ever been blessed enough to organize and host.
The event went viral and you received many study or employment opportunities.Since the Summer Festival was the final test that you passed with the highest scores as admissioned by the board, you had officially graduated and moved out of the school dormitory into your own apartment purchased as a gift to yourself with the capital earned from the fest.
One sunny summer day as you peacefully sat on the sofa alongside your beloved and scrolled through your mailbox, you came across an invitation to move abroad and study in the prestigious New York Music Industry & Production university for a certain period of time.
You excitedly showed him the mail and he immediately supportively agreed that you should go. But then as you read further into the details, you realized how long you'll be apart from him.
Two lovers on two different continents.
The thought scared you.
But then you felt his arms wrap around your waist from the back and soft whispers in your ear.
"It's an opportunity of a lifetime. Take it. Don't think twice."
You continued silently staring at the wall across the room with a blank expression on your face, pondering about what to say or do. You didn't want to move a muscle, suddenly terrified of the thought that he could slip out of the embrace and disappear, leaving you.
But a soft chuckle dispersed those thoughts and you felt his warm lips at the nape of your neck, his breaths tickling your skin and sending shivers down your spine.
"I'll wait for you."
~~~
Now you sat at your desk in the lonely New York apartment with piles of unfinished or due work which kept growing at a consistent and incredibly cruel speed. With the hands of the clock lining up at the top of the clock, you realized midnight came.
You took the paper calendar from the desk and drew an X over the last circled square - 13th February. Then, you drew a heart shape around the next square and put the calendar back in its place.Oh nothing, just another beautiful holiday spent without him. No big deal. As long as your tears could run free it was no big deal.
You couldn't see the last circled date on the calendar because it was the 3rd March - a page which you couldn't turn yet. But it would come eventually, along with the flight back to Japan with no returning ticket.
You couldn't help but look forward to that day.Currently within different timezones and both buried with work and assignments, you could rarely find time to properly talk and share experiences with him. But he still regularly sent you texts and cute photos with lots of hearts to you as to boost up your mood even if thousands of miles away from each other.
With that thought, you snatched your phone right off the charger and opened the chat with him, typing in a cute message and silencing the notification with care.
In three weeks we shall meet again in person for sure, and afterwards I'm never letting go.
I wrote this with the guilty conscience that I'd leave you empty-handed for Valentine but it turned out pretty decent as a fill-in actually.Anyway, I won't abandon the previously promised chapters since they'll be the official ending for this fanfiction.
I apologize for any inconvenience caused, as well as to those who might want more of the story - I won't be promising stuff anymore.Ily all and thank you for 2.5k reads!! I'll post the Valentine chapters when I take care of my currently clogged study schedule...
