The stupidity

Prelude

Slam! Charlotte was struck by a speeding car. She immediately lost consciousness and fell to the ground with a dull thud. Jayden, the driver, chuckled. "Good riddance!" he yelled triumphantly at her prone body. Matthias flinched, not knowing what to do (不知所措). He shuddered. All this for revenge? A single teardrop fell onto the sidewalk. Yifeng was traumatized and sent to the mental hospital afterwards.

Everything happened in the blink of an eye. At the hospital, blood was seeping from the gaping wound, soaking the dressing deep red. The gash in her side wouldn't stop bleeding, however hard the doctors tried to hold the fluids in. Her eyelids fluttered, but they never opened. Her heartbeat was unsteady, fading by the second. He sat by her bed, clasping her hands in his. When would she ever open her eyes again?

"Beep... Beep... Beep..." The heart rate monitor beeped at longer and longer intervals, until......it slowed to a stop.

"No..." he breathed shakily. It was not possible. It couldn't be possible. All the doctors, with all their technology...

But it had happened, and there was nothing he could do about it.

They couldn't help her.

They couldn't save her.

She was dead. His only love was dead. Forever.

Or so he thought.
