Finally. A good distraction
Y/n was standing in a long hall, near her Pippin was sitting on a stone bench in his new guard Armor, his legs adorably dangling in the air as he was too short for the human sized bench.
"What were you thinking Peregrin Took? What service can a Hobbit offer such a great lord of men?" muttered the hobbit to himself.
The pirate opened her mouth to console her small friend but another voice, coming from down the hall cut her to it.
"It was well done. A generous deed should not be checked with cold counsel." it was Faramir who was quickly approaching the two of them, Pippin immediately jumped up from his position but y/n remained leaning against the cold stone wall.
"You are to join the tower guard." continued the stewards son.
"I didn't think they would find any livery that would fit me." chuckled the hobbit gazing up at the dark blond man with unsure eyes.
Faramir smiled gently before he spoke.
"It once belonged to a young boy of the city. A very foolish one who wasted many hours slaying dragons instead of attending his studies." he spoke fondly, his gaze meeting y/n for a split second to which she gave a kind smile.
"This was yours?" spoke Pippin his smile sounding through in his voice.
"Yes, it was mine. My father had it made for me." He said while adjusting Pippins tunic.
"Well, I'm taller than you were then. Though, I'm not likely to grow anymore, except sideways." Joked the hobbit and y/n joined the two men in their easeful laughter.
"It never fitted me either. Boromir was always the soldier." said Faramir as his smile faded. "They were so alike he and my father. Proud, stubborn even, but strong."
Y/n furrowed her brows finding the comparison to the childish steward and her passed on friend quite insulting. And coming from his own brother no less.
But she bit her tongue as to not upset the man. She did have other plans for him after all.
"I think you have strength of a different kind. And one day your father will see it." spoke the hobbit firmly bringing a smile back to Faramirs features.
Pippin then wiped his sweaty hands on his tunic.
"Well , I must get going then." he said before disappearing down the hallway leaving the two humans alone together.
"You were traveling with them, from the beginning on?" asked Faramir after just a few seconds of silence.
Y/n nodded before looking into the mans eyes.
"I knew your brother." answered she the question he hadn't dared to ask yet. "He spoke very fondly of you."
Faramir averted his eyes in a flustered way.
"All exaggerated lies, I fear." muttered he quietly.
"Oh yes? I did not take him for a liar or was he?" she teased
To that Faramir shook his head, abashed.
"No he was not. He was a good and honest man."
"I know. More honorable and stronger than most. I hear it runs in the family." She spoke and winked at the man. Except for your father, she added in her mind.
Faramir coughed, possibly to hide his flustered state.
"Boromir was a good, no, a great fighter." There was silence for a couple moments. "My father wishes I had returned with the ring, he scorns me for letting it go." continued Faramir.
