Prompt: Robin kisses Regina without thinking and he realises that maybe he likes her.
Roommates AU.
I imagine them younger here, maybe mid-twenties.
And thanks to my friend who helped me bring this to life :DHe's an idiot. A stupid, reckless idiot. From the moment his lips connect with her temple and she freezes slightly under his touch, he knows he shouldn't have done it. Suddenly he can't stop thinking about the soft flowery scent of her perfume and the way her mouth curves up when she laughs, her momentary shock all but forgotten. They've been roommates for over a year now and Robin doesn't quite understand how he's not noticed this side of her before. He's always thought she's beautiful, it's impossible not to, but recently something has changed between them, and he knows she feels it too.
Regina's smiling to herself but Robin just stares at her from his place by the sink, the dish towel slung over his shoulder. Her hands emerge from the soapy water and he doesn't even notice she's holding out the next plate to him until she says "they don't dry themselves you know" with a smirk, bumping their hips. He huffs a laugh, reaches for the plate, his fingers brushing over hers as he grips the ceramic surface. Regina flicks her eyes up and they lock with his, the bright blue of his iris illuminated by the sunlight filtering through the blinds of the kitchen window.
Robin sets the plate down on the side and slowly moves his hand to her face, resting his palm to her cheek, sliding his fingers through the tresses behind her ear. Regina's breath hitches at the tingling his touch leaves behind on her skin and she licks her bottom lip absently, her mouth suddenly dry. They stand there for an immeasurable amount of time before Robin leans in, dipping his neck and pressing his lips over hers, a soft kiss that starts off apprehensive before it finds it's feet.
He lifts his other hand up and cups her cheek as he steps closer, turning her body more towards him. The swipe of his tongue has her parting her lips further to grant him access, their breaths becoming deeper as she wraps her dripping hands around his neck. She leans into him, pressing their bodies together, his hand sliding down her arm and landing on her waist. He rubs his hand up and down the cotton of her tee shirt from her shoulder blades to the top of her jeans in lazy strokes.
They break apart, both slightly breathless, and Regina is almost certain her cheeks are as red as they feel from the heat that began to spread from her neck after their lips had met. She feels dizzy, unable to do anything but stare at him, her eyes floating between his eyes and his mouth.
"I...I'm sorry," Robin stutters as he drops his hand from her cheek and she instantly misses the contact.
"Robin-"
"I'll just go."
His eyes fall to the floor as he turns, grabbing his coat from the hook and walking out of the apartment without a glance back. She's stood, rooted in place, too confused and embarrassed to call after him.
Robin descends the stairs and pushes the glass doors of the building open onto the street. He falls back against the wall, inhaling the crisp autumn air which so quickly chased away summer's comforting warmth. What has he done? If he thought something had changed before, now it definitely has. And then the realisation that he just left her stood in the kitchen hits him and he feels a pang of guilt like a slap to the face.
"You idiot, Locksley." He breathes out the words, rubbing his index finger and thumb along his forehead.
"Took the words right out of my mouth." He turns and there she is, her brow quirked up in almost-amusement.
"Hi." He says it because there's nothing else he can think to say. The hey she offers in response is followed by a weak smile which he returns before sighing. "Was that a bad move?" The question makes her laugh slightly, her head falling forwards so her hair cascades across her face.
"The kiss or the sudden exit?" She runs a hand through her hair, pushing it behind her ear and looking at him with a smirk tugging at the corners of her lips.
"Both." He admits, his shoulders rising and falling before he shoves his hands in his pockets and pushes away from the wall to face her. Regina steps towards him and hooks her thumb into his belt loop, keeping their eyes locked.
"Leaving me standing in our kitchen may have been a bad move, but," she inclines her neck more, lifting up onto her toes so her lips are almost touching his "the kiss," Robin can feel the warmth of her breath as she speaks, "was a pretty good idea." He catches her smile before she covers his mouth with hers, slinking her arms into the gaps between his arms and his side.
She lets her heels fall back to the ground and their lips part. Robin wraps his arms around her and buries his nose into her hair, breathing in the familiar shampoo scent. Regina squeezes him back, then shifts to link their fingers and pull him back inside, ginning as she looks down at their woven hands.
(Authors note:
I just wanted to ask what you guys think of the AU stories? Because I like to write them but I wonder if you like to read them too? Please comment and let me know!
Also, if I was to write a longer, separate outlaw queen fanfiction as an AU would any of you read it? I have an idea but I'd like to know what you think.
Thanks!)
