Cove's Pov:

I wasn't sure why she was so intriguing. I couldn't seem to stay away from her. Her dark blue eyes were mesmerizing. Her hair was always a little messy because it was so long and thick. I'd never seen her wear any makeup and she rode that skateboard around like cars were useless. She was a badass and I could just sense that there was way more to her.

I needed to know. It's like she was a puzzle I ached to solve, but she's very difficult. My usual ways weren't working on her.

I liked seeing that I had some effect on her, but she wouldn't break without reason. Of course she just had to be Jaxons sister though.

I had known Jax for years through hockey. He was the captain back in California. I was the captain here so we were friendly competition I guess. It was blood on the ice and friendship off of it.

We just clicked and he clicked with the rest of the group too. Thus he had always been involved. He'd visited multiple times the last few years and we don't say it often, but he became my best friend.

I wasn't sure if I could do this to him. I know he'd kill me if he knew I was going after his little sister. But I couldn't seem to stop thinking about her. I needed to know her...to have her.

Riverlynn's Pov:

"Hey!" Lily called for me after classes were over. I was walking towards her car in the parking lot now. We hopped into her car and I turned to her.

"So.." I thought a moment about how to word my question or..questions? I guess?

But she spoke before I could finish. "Let me guess. You want to know about mr. mystery, Cove?" She was smiling like such a girl. Ugh.

My cheeks grew warm. But I held my smile back. "No." Lies. "Okay kind of."

"I want to know how and why y'all already know each other?" She continued.

I looked at my hands. "He...um sat next to me at Crumbs, my first day in town. I don't know why, but he sat there and bothered me while I just wanted peace and quiet. And then the next day he told me he was coming over and like showed up at my window and basically forced his way in, well not really but-" I breathed out rushed.

"WOAH wait! You-He's your brothers best friend and you let him into your bedroom?" She laughed out in a shocked tone.

I laughed as well. I didn't realize how bizarre that was after all. "Yes it was weird but I didn't know he was Jax's best friend at that time. I didn't really let him in. He kind of let himself in. Like you said, he's very mysterious. He...I don't know why he keeps showing up."

Lily let out an exasperated sigh. "You're like a walking romance book. Look, Cove isn't exactly someone who does the whole dating or getting close to people thing. I mean i've known him since freshman year and he's always been the hottie every girl wants to get with. And-"

She paused and looked over at me with a concerned face before continuing. "-he's kind of a player. Ya know? He's really only close with Jax. No one else really knows him. If that makes sense."

My face turned to a frown and I nodded, looking away. "It does. He seems...he seems like that."

I could see Lily smile out of the corner of my eye. "You actually like him huh?"

I shoot a look at her. "What? No I don't even know him. He's my brothers best friend anyways. No way." I knew I sounded too defensive. Dammit.

She was quiet for a minute. "You know. I don't want to put any ideas in your head or anything. But since i've known Cove, he's never gone to a girls house like that before. He's actually never even really been playful with anyone like he is with you before."

I was quick—too quick to respond. "He didn't go to my house technically. He was there for my brother so it doesn't even matter. I want nothing to do with him."

Before Lily could respond to my statement, there was a loud knock on the passenger side window next to me, making us both jump. Of course it was him.

Lily rolled my window down with the buttons on her driver side door. I shot her a glare to say "really?" and look back at Cove standing there with Danny and Bellamy standing behind him.

"Hey princess." He smiled down at me. I rolled my eyes and ignored him, pulling out a notebook and my homework from today. I tried my best to ignore whatever conversation was happening and just focus on my assignment.

"What are we doing tonight?" Danny asked.

Lily clapped her hands excitedly. "ooo yes! First day party at River and Jax's?"

But I didn't hear her, per my attempt to ignore Cove's body hovering through the window. I didn't need this. I don't know why I couldn't get him out of my head. The thoughts of him in my bedroom, spurred up the past in my brain.

All of my memories from my last town and school flooded my thoughts and my breathing picked up speed, quietly. The voices around me faded. At least, until a large hand gripped around my wrist, stopping my pencil which was leaving trails of very dark led on the paper as I was unconsciously pushing down as hard as I could while I was writing.

My eyes shot up to who the hand belonged to. "What? What now?" I snapped quietly. His eyes grew wider for a spilt second and then concern washed over his face.

"What's the matter?" He asked softly.

I felt my face soften as I realized how I sounded. "I-Sorry." I said. He still had my wrist in my hand. We were silent for a minute as his eyes examined my face like he was searching for clues.

Then Bellamy faked a cough behind him. "Not to break up this very Cove moment. But the party?"

My face fell back into an annoyed expression as I understood what his words meant.

"Are you okay?" Cove whispered. My eyes met his once more and I didn't answer. I couldn't.

I just looked back to Bellamy. "Uh what  party?" I said as I awkwardly took my wrist back from Cove's grip.

"The one at your house tonight." Danny chuckled out. My eyes widened.

"My house? What? No, no-" I gave a nervous laugh.

Lily chimed in now. "Come on Riv! You're moms gone for the next two days! She'll never know and your house is the biggest with a yard!"

I thought a moment. I was trying to start a new life here right? I told myself I was going to change my quiet shy ways and be more involved with people and friends.

Shit.

I rolled my eyes and shrugged in defeat. They all quietly cheered a "yes" or a "good" and dispersed. Other than Cove.

He smirked. Does he do anything but make that stupid dreamy face? "Jax already said yes anyways. Think you guys will need help setting up tonight, princess?"

Assholes. Of course Jax did. "Setting up?" I asked confused. What did I need to set up? Jax can do it. They're his friends. Mostly.

He laughed and so did Lily. "Oh my. Cove be there at 5 to help them. I'll be there at 6. I have drama until 5:30. I'll go home then go to yours to help y'all."

"Yes ma'am." Cove did a salute gesture and dramatically 'fell' away from the car.

I turned to Lily. "What are we setting up?"

She continuously laughed at me thorough our entire drive to my house and teased me for "how I lived under a rock before moving here."

Honestly, I guess she was right.

I cannot for the life of me decide how I want this party scene to go.
