“Say it, Beca. Just say it.”
“I’m sorry Jesse. I really really am.”
“Say it!”
“I – I’m breaking up with you.”
His face fell. “Why?” he asked in disbelief.
“Because I... I’m in love with someone else.”
He became silent. I looked at his grim expression. His face showed anger and frustration but his eyes said another thing. Pain. I turned away. I knew I hurt him.
“Who is he?” he finally said.
“It’s no one you know.” I said hoarsely.
“C’mon Beca, just tell me. It’s the least you can do.”
“I said it’s no one.”
He suddenly grabbed my hand and took me by the shoulders. I felt his nails dug through my skin.
“Tell me who he is, Beca!”
“Stop it Jesse! You’re hurting me!”
“Why don’t you just tell me?”
“Stop it!” I pushed him away. He stumbled back and fell on the ground.
“I’m sorry.” I whispered.
He shook his head and started to get up. I backed away a little, afraid he was going to hurt me again.
“What happened to us Beca?” he asked. “I thought we’re perfect together.”
“We were.” I said. “But something’s changed. I’m not the same girl you knew, Jesse.”
His eyes bored into mine with misery.
“I’m sorry.” I softly said.
“I know.” He nodded. “And I am too.”
He started to walk away.
“But always remember this, Beca.” He stopped. “I will never stop loving you.”
