*Ansel's POV*
As I kiss her,
I feel her start crying.
Pulling back,
I wrap her tightly in my arms.
Her face is buried in my shoulder,
And I feel her sob.
She cries for what feels like eternity.
My heart crumbles with each tear.
Please stop.
I quietly beg.
This is worse than her night terrors...
Only for the simple fact
That she's doing this willingly.
She's letting her tears fall
And me hold her.
That's what hurts me.
Soon,
I realize,
She's going to move to her grandmother's,
And I'm going to be alone...
Stuck in a crazy, confusing world
Without her.
Maybe I don't have to completely lose her.
But, I have to focus on now.
"W-what h-h-happened?"
She asks between hiccups.
I push her hair out of her eyes
And focus on her words.
"He started after you
When he saw you running past Mr. Mj's."
She frowns.
"I ran that way?"
I nod.
"And you chased after me?" She asks.
The expression on her face is one I will
Probably never forget.
The worry,
The fear,
The sadness,
And the utter disbelief.
"Yeah," I say assuringly.
"He stopped somewhere between here
And the local super market."
She sighs in relief.
"Yeah. I've never seen anyone run so fast, baby," I calmly say as I splatter kisses on her hand.
She relaxes and leans up against me,
Fully letting me hold her.
"You chased after me... Even when he didn't. Why?"
As I sit down up against a tree,
I tilt her face towards me
And look straight into her eyes.
"Why would I not?"
Tears start to fall again
And she says, "Because no one ever has."
Then,
In the midst of chaos,
I kiss her.
Her kiss makes me feel reassured--
I just pray it does the same for her.
We lean our foreheads together,
And I get lost in the thought of her.
"I love you, my beautiful Rosaline."
She gives a small chuckle
Before saying, "I love you, my love."
We sit there for at least an hour
Before resolving that it was time to go home.
"My grandma lives near by,"
I say.
She smiles and nods.
"Think she'll mind us bombarding her house for tonight?" She asks, and I chuckle.
"No, I don't think so."
She stops and tugs on my hand.
"Why do you love me?"
That is the craziest question I have ever been asked.
"I'm not exactly normal, Ansel. Gosh, I don't think you've ever seen me being normal-- like when I was younger."
I frown and walk closer to her.
"Let's go away. Spend a few days at my grandpa and grandma's... just to act normal. You and me."
She nods slowly.
"Listen, I don't care if you're ever normal again. I love you... to the moon and back. Nothing-- not even the threats of Hank-- can change that. Okay?"
She tip-toes and lightly kisses my lips.
"Okay," she agrees.
I sling her over my shoulders
And make her laugh,
Acting like we're spies on the hunt for a bunny rabbit.
She yells random things to make me turn around quickly
And even jokes about it.
When we get to me grandma's,
I know that my cupcake is
Assured of my love.
I can see it in her eyes. And that's the best feeling in the world.
